'Red 70 Black Star, Red 70 Black Star'
Advantages: Great for fans of the game Disadvantages: Not so good if you don't know much about the sport or don't like big budget blockbusters
...this led him to make Any Given Sunday in 1999/2000. The cutthroat world of sports politics and financial pressure are mixed with some well filmed on the field entertainment to produce a film that many have praised and many have slated. I am in the first category, but I can see why some wouldn't find this their cup of tea.
The Plot
Any Given Sunday follows the Miami Sharks, a Associated Football Franchises of America (AFFA) Team through the highs ... ...the doctor who will use any accepted and unaccepted means of getting the players out onto the field.
Other mentions go to LL Cool J and Lawrence Taylor as J-Man and Shark, two of the central player characters, and also Moatthew Modine as Ollie, Mandrake's assistant who questions his superior's unethical procedures. Ann Margret plays Margaret Pagniacci, Christina's mother, and Charlton Heston makes an appearance as a Commissioner. Also watch out ...

Poorly Expressed
Advantages: It tries to bring a little known hero to light. Disadvantages: It's hackneyed in all respects.
...football player Ernie Davis was the first African-American to win the prestigious Heisman trophy and his pioneering spirit changed the face of American sport forever. Raised in penury in Pennsylvania, Davis overcame financial and social obstacles to become one of the greatest players in American college football. Under the tutelage of legendary Syracuse coach Ben Schwartzwalder, he set records that stand to this day. Schwartzwalder was a tough-talking ... ...worked. But despite their clashes, the coach taught Davis everything he needed to know about American football, but was unable to safeguard him from tragedy. Director Gary Fleder has mainly worked in TV and that is perhaps why this film feels more like a made-for-television movie or a miniseries. It lacks scope; shot on grimy film with a phlegm-toned palette that makes everything that happens feel slightly old-fashioned and somehow workaday. This ...

Smarter than the Average?
Advantages: A good cast. Disadvantages: The actors are wasted on poor writing and generic direction.
...that is nowhere near as smart as it thinks it is.
The screenplay by Mark Poirier perpetuates the myth that all clever people are emotionally retarded, socially dysfunctional monsters with superiority complexes. It seems an odd prejudice to hold as without the titular smart people we would have died out as a species long ago. Nonetheless this has become a handy stereotype in recent years as the phenomenon of "dumbing down" has taken hold. As Lawrence ... ...it virtually impossible to care about them. But the same can also be said of his adopted brother Chuck who is nothing more than the slacker stereotype turned middle-aged. Janet is a handy example of how intellect and people skills can mesh. But the problem is that the characters aren't fleshed out beyond the clichés so they have no distinct personalities or idiosyncrasies that allow you to identify with them. And the suggestion that the intelligentsia ...

Can they survive a new Ice Age?
Advantages: Brilliant special effects, solid storyline and acting, looks and sound terrific on Blu-ray Disadvantages: None! A thoroughly enjoyable experience.
...issue in modern society, with the Government releasing advertising campaigns to help make the public realise the detrimental effect everyday activities are having on our planet. Everything from television adverts telling us to switch our TV's off standby to the mystery voice on the radio reminding us to turn off the light everytime we leave the room have become an everyday occurrence. Climatologists and Scientists strongly believe that our wasteful ... ...issue in 2004 by directing The Day After Tomorrow, an epic blockbuster which shows the threatening prospect of a new Ice Age arriving.
The film begins with Climatologist Dr. Jack Hall (Dennis Quaid) drilling ice cores in Antarctica when a piece on the Antarctic shelf breaks off, nearly bringing Jack and his colleagues to their death. This event makes the Doctor realise how serious an issue global warming is becoming and sparks Jack in to action ...

Revenge is a dish best taken cold
Advantages: Much better than I expected Disadvantages: There's nothing special about it
My mum and sister have completely different tastes in films to me. They like nothing better than to sit down with a mushy rom-com, whereas I tend to go for thrillers and horror. At a recent visit to my parents, I felt like watching a film, so had to choose from a selection of what looked like hideous, vomit-inducing romances. I picked this one purely because it was one I hadn't heard of and it starred Dennis Quaid, who I generally think of as a good ... ...film, so perhaps for this reason, I actually quite enjoyed it. Grace is a happily married woman with a successful career and a young daughter. Or at least she thinks. One day while out driving around town, she spots her husband Eddie kissing another woman. It soon becomes clear that he has been a serial cheater and that some of the women he was seeing were Grace's friends. Feeling that she has been made a total fool of, she takes her daughter and ...
