Review of The Way We Were DVD by Blank

Advantages: Robert. Robert, HUBBA HUBBA Robert
Disadvantages: Sorry, none...

...will put my hands in the air and admit that I am fickle and would enjoy this film even if the story were dire and torturous. I simply defy any woman to watch this 114 minute film, and more specifically watch and ogle Hubbell Gardner (a young Robert Redford. Swoon - God certainly outdid himself with this one) and not just love this movie because, well – we’re women and this is one of the perks! However, the movie itself was surprisingly good, or no, ...
...of Africa and MANY more). The movie was made in 1973 (though is set in 30’s to 50’s), and tells the story of the rocky relationship between conservative writer Hubbell Gardner (Hubba Hubba Redford) and Katie Morosky, K K K K Kikki (Streisand) an intense (this may be an understatement) political activist. They go to the same college. He, of course, is popular, an intelligent ‘jock’ but sensitive too and she is on the opposite spectrum, not too popular ... Read review

Epic Film on the Birth of Israel
Review of Exodus DVD by BawBaw

Advantages: Historical drama of the first order
Disadvantages: At 3 hr, 28 min, perhaps a tad too long

Exodus is Otto Preminger's epic movie based on Leon Uris's novel depicting the birth of the modern State of Israel. Released in 1960, while memories of the political and historical struggles surrounding this event were still fresh, Exodus has come to define the drama of Israel's War for Independence for generations of moviegoers. I'm not certain how often I've watched this film, but surely I've seen it at least 20 times during the past four-and-a-half ...
...a stereotypical Jewish "type." Exodus was so successful in all these areas that anti-Israeli and anti-Jewish groups in the United States and around the world concluded that it had been a calculated move to increase public sympathy for Israel. During my more recent viewings of Exodus, I've begun to notice ways in which the film is showing its age. Overall, the acting is less sophisticated than we've come to expect these days. Still, there are a number ... Read review

Sometimes you win sometimes you loose
Review of Match Point DVD by MI9to5

Advantages: Can be tense, shocking and unpredictable
Disadvantages: Appears to be a typical chick-flick on the surface

My reason for purchasing Match Point in the first instance was quite simple, Jonathon Rhys Myers was in it and for me that was as good an excuse as any to buy a new film. I'm so glad however that I did buy this film because not only does Rhys Myers play a fantastic part and look extremely handsome for the main but the film has become a firm favourite of mine. Chris (Jonathon Rhys Meyers) is an Irish tennis coach who after coaching Tom, the son of ...
..."There are moments in a match when the ball hits the top of the net and for a split second it can go either forward or fall back. With a little luck it goes forward and you win. Or maybe it doesn't and you lose." This line sums up the double-edged sword that the film is, as on more than one occasion the ball may go forward and Chris may uphold the life he has dreamed of but just as easily it may fall backwards and the world he has come to love may ... It's a Wonderful Film
Review of It's A Wonderful Life DVD by Maximus-Qualitus

Disadvantages: None

IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE. ******************************* Produced and Directed by Frank Capra. Starring: Jimmy Stewart as George Bailey. Donna Reed as Mary (Mrs Bailey). Henry Travers as Clarence the angel. Lionel Barrymore as Mr Potter. James Stewart once said this was HIS favourite performance of all the films he had starred in. My favourite film of all time, something I oddly share with Dave Lister! I really should get out more. Introduction: ...

A Fantastic film well worth watching
Review of A Beautiful Mind DVD by PeterTruss26

Advantages: Good film rooted in a real life story with good performances by the actors
Disadvantages: None that I can think of

...enjoyed this film. It is a emotional story which has a few twist and turns to keep you on your toes with some action scenes enlivening it. This is as well as a gritty realism from the true story behind the film of John Nash's struggle with mental illness. Lead actor Russel Crowe puts in a convincing and engaging performance as the brilliant but afflicted mathamatician John Nash. All the characters work well with Connelly combining well with Crowe ...
