A right royal fairytale
Review of Roman Holiday DVD by sunmeilan

Advantages: Audrey Hepburn at her most attractive, charming story
Disadvantages: A bit slushy at times

...being all that enamoured of Roman Holiday (at least not publicly!), unless they are a fan of Audrey Hepburn, but I think most women will love it. It is a classic for a reason - it really has stood the test of time. So if you haven't seen it yet, look out for it, it is definitely worth a watch. Recommended. The DVD is available from play.com for £5.99. Classification: U Running time: 118 minutes ... Read review

Emma-Austin would be proud !!
Review of Emma (Wide Screen) by roz14

Advantages: Gwyneth Paltrow gets the character across perfectely
Disadvantages: Sometimes the language can be a bit confusing

...with such style and with Emma being such a decieving, and sonetimes cruel, person then she has to be played with a certain subtelty which Gwyneth Paltrow pin points perfectely. The other actors/actresses are also fit in with their characters extrodinarily well. Emma sees herself as a match maker, but what she doesn't see is that whether you are upper or lower class, you can't help who you fall in love with, this is made a bigger problem when Emma ...
...farmer, which Emma disagrees with and so she tries to destroy anything between them, this is just one of the many complications with love that this film comes across. I recommend it to anyone, I didnt think it was my kind of film either but it may just surprise you! ... Read review

Waterloo
Review of Waterloo (Wide Screen) by Phelthew

Advantages: Massive fullscale battle scenes
Disadvantages: Those horse riding moments

...after this the battle of Waterloo starts to take shape with the armies taking position. The films portrayal of the Irish regiment isn't great, no-one in Enniskillen talks like that for a start but I'll move on. The battle scene itself is amazing, it is long lasting but utterly enthralling. The film is made using 15,000 Soviet soldiers. There are no computer added men this is all live action viewing. Napoleon eventually gets the better of the British ...
...the lateness of a third of his army. The plot is mostly historically accurate. The actintg in this film is great, Rod Steiger as I've said before on Ciao is a superb actor. You can hear the thoughts of Napoleon and Wellington in the filma d this really helped character progression and developed the performance. The special effects are amazing as alot of them aren't really effects but reality, the Soviet army put their men at the directors disposal ... Read review

5 main reasons for the fall of the roman empire
Review of The Fall Of The Roman Empire DVD by mad.man.560

Advantages: main reasons for the fall
Disadvantages: quite old

...and environmental problems. Many of the wealthy had water brought to their homes through lead pipes. Previously the aqueducts had even purified the water but at the end lead pipes were thought to be preferable. The wealthy death rate was very high. The continuous interaction of people at the Colosseum, the blood and death probable spread disease. Those who lived on the streets in continuous contact allowed for an uninterrupted strain of disease much ...
...increased as well adding to the incompetency of the general public. Political Corruption One of the most difficult problems was choosing a new emperor. Unlike Greece where transition may not have been smooth but was at least consistent, the Romans never created an effective system to determine how new emperors would be selected. The choice was always open to debate between the old emperor, the Senate, the Praetorian Guard (the emperor's private army), ... Read review
