Babel
Review of Babel DVD by
jacoyeg
Advantages: Great story, directing and musical score.
Disadvantages: Needs 100% attention
Story was very well written, ties together beautifully. The music is powerful and the directing is magnificent. Stunning, very well made. It may not be very fast paced at some parts but some of the stories are tense enough to keep it moving on well. Studies the difficulties of language and cultural barriers very well. All characters are very interesting. Stunningly beautiful in a painful way, some of the cinematography is breathtaking. Would not ... ...it needs allot of concentration and is not always an easy watch at some parts, it deals with a few heavy issues. The directing and music enhance the amazing script from a good film to a great film. I hold this film highly. Would recommend a a good quality wide screen and sound system as the sound and visuals are stunning. ...

Babbling on...
Review of Babel DVD by
afy9mab
Advantages: Somre very strong performances.
Disadvantages: Some wishy-washy characterisation and lack of plot.
When an American tourist is accidentally shot in the Moroccan desert, the events have repercussions around the world. The holidaying couple struggle to survive in a country where few speak their language. A Mexican nanny is forced to take two American children over the border illegally. Two young boys get involved in a crime they didn’t intend to commit and a deaf teenage Japanese rebel discovers her father is being sought by the Tokyo police. Circumstance ... ...of loss and isolation. Separated by culture, language and a lack of understanding of their surroundings and themselves, they all struggle to connect with the world.
Like Robert Altman before him, director Alejandro González Ińárritu is fixated on the multi-strand narrative format that links several stories through a single event. It can be a very effective storytelling tool but it can fall flat on its face. This particular example is moderately ...

More Babble than Babel
Review of Babel DVD by
lona
Advantages: Good performance from Cate Blanchett
Disadvantages: Subtitles and boring
...like to be entertained. Babel is not one of those films I have to say. I think the director strived to intertwine four stories into one movie but to me it did not gel.
First off, the majority of the movie is in sub titles, which did not make the film easy to follow. The movie was complex enough without having to follow subtitles.
The four stories are linked in an obscure kind of way and spans four countries.
The story starts off in Morocco where ... ...movie was aptly named as Babel as to me it was a load of babble from beginning to end and I can not recommend it, unless you are one of those folk who are deep thinking and reading into political things as it did have a political undertone.
Myself, I like to watch movies for the entertainment value and this movie certainly is not one of them.
Director ………….Alejandro González Ińárritu
Writer…………… Guillermo Arriaga
Cast ……………. Brad Pitt ... Richard ...

Sometimes you win sometimes you loose
Review of Match Point DVD by
MI9to5
Advantages: Can be tense, shocking and unpredictable
Disadvantages: Appears to be a typical chick-flick on the surface
My reason for purchasing Match Point in the first instance was quite simple, Jonathon Rhys Myers was in it and for me that was as good an excuse as any to buy a new film. I'm so glad however that I did buy this film because not only does Rhys Myers play a fantastic part and look extremely handsome for the main but the film has become a firm favourite of mine.
Chris (Jonathon Rhys Meyers) is an Irish tennis coach who after coaching Tom, the son of ... ..."There are moments in a match when the ball hits the top of the net and for a split second it can go either forward or fall back. With a little luck it goes forward and you win. Or maybe it doesn't and you lose."
This line sums up the double-edged sword that the film is, as on more than one occasion the ball may go forward and Chris may uphold the life he has dreamed of but just as easily it may fall backwards and the world he has come to love may ...
