When 'The Aviator', directed by Martin Scorsese, was fist released in 2004 I quite fancied watching it but just never got round to doing so. While ordering some books from Amazon I looked up the DVD and as it was only £1, I added it to my order. In retrospect - I'm glad that it was only £1!! The story follows around twenty tears in the life of the infamous, eccentric billionaire Howard Hughes from his making of his epic ...

Starts off great but begins to fades away
Advantages: Some excellent action scenes, solid performances, stunning visuals Disadvantages: narrative starts to drop off after a while
Released in 2001, Enemy at the Gates is a war film set during the battle of Stalingrad and starring Jude Law as russian peasant-turned-sniper Vassili Zaitsev and Ed Harris as Major Erwin Konig, an elite German sniper who gets the job of tracking down and taking out Vassili after the russian attracts the attention of his superiors on account of his hunting-honed sniping skills and is moulded into an important Soviet propaganda weapon. Artificiality
Advantages: Good graphics, very involving Disadvantages: Disturbing, far too long
This film was shown on television a while ago, and although I had heard the name of the film several times, I really had no idea what it was actually about. I was certainly expecting some sort of robot film, but from there my ideas of what the film was about turned out to be dreadfully wrong. There was barely anything on television so after flicking through several channels I spotted this movie and thought 'ah, a movie,' then settled on it with a ... ...much, although to be honest they are not usually my type of film, so my expectations were not that high.
Future
The film is set in the future, at a time where our current fears of global warming melting ice at the poles and drowning the land have become a reality. This has not stopped the human race and the good old fashioned cuddly toy we know of now is not a thing of the past, but a thing transformed. In fact, this film does feature robots, in ...

Diabetics only
Advantages: Soppy girls will love it! Disadvantages: Not for guys
The Holiday is one of those films I wouldn't normally rent but as it keeps popping up on here with 4 stars then it would be rude not to. The fact it's a chick-flick with Jack Black are two good reasons why I didn't rent it. But with our very own Kate Winslet and Jude Law onboard I thought it might have a little more depth to it, what the American versions with those pink dust covers tend not to have. I have nothing against rom-coms and religiously ... ...be nowhere near them unless the misses has picked it out from the video store by cover alone for the cosy night in. And when it's a middle-class romantic comedy, where miserable professionals spend the whole movie sobbing in the Kleenex because their life is somehow not complete without the perfect partner, and the guys are all feeble metro sexual men, it does leave little room for something for the male audience to enjoy on the couch. That, alas, ...
