Grant & Kerr Sizzle In A Beloved Romantic Drama
Review of An Affair To Remember DVD by
eve6kicksass
Advantages: Romantic, extremely well acted and made
Disadvantages: A bit too long and overrated for this reviewer's taste
...passionate films of all time, AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER is a remake of a 1939 film called LOVE AFFAIR, which were both directed with flair by Leo McCarey. Critics seem to be divided on which one of McCarey's films is the superior film…though, to many audiences (including Ciao's own christianfilmcritic), there is just no contest. To them, the latter version from 1957 starring Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr has become a beloved classic, and its status was ... ...That's quite an honor, but is it really deserved? ******************************************************************
P ART TWO: IT STARTED WITH A CIGARETTE CASE…
The film is primarily centered around the relationship of two people, with the first half showcasing their growing attraction on a luxury liner, and the second presenting the inevitable obstacles that keep them from coming together. Nickie Ferrante (Cary Grant, NORTH BY NORTHWEST, BRINGING ...

Lucky Number Slevin
Review of Lucky Number Slevin DVD by
scales23
Advantages: Excellent Plot and Script
Disadvantages: 18 Rating so not suitable for all audiences
Following a string of bad luck, Slevin (Josh Hartnett) decides go to New York to meet up with an old friend, but a case of mistaken identity leaves him being put in the middle of a gang war between The Boss (Morgon Freeman) and the Rabbi (Ben Kingsley). Left with no choice but to try and write off the debts of the person he is mistaken for, Slevin starts to work for both sides.
However when the infamous Mr Goodkat (Bruce Willis), a contract killer, ... ...to be a bit hit in New York, As the plot unfolds Slevin the Mr Goodkat work together in this ingenious plot with one of the most unique twists in a film today.
Although this film has a huge array of stars, it never really appealed to me at first, until i ended up catching it in passing. i don't think i have ever been so wrong about a film in my life. A solid acting performance is put in by Josh Hartnett making this film enjoyable and easy to watch.

Review of Cat People DVD by
Borg
Advantages: Nice and smoothly draws you into the horror.
Disadvantages: A bit of a slow start, maybe?
...and the rest. I remembered Cat People as being quite dark and a story of love and horror, I also remember a great scene were Miss Kinski gets her kit off. Hey… I was in my teens, your remembered things like that in your teens! Not that I don't remember things like that in my older age, of course…
So… when I saw this picture in a shop recently at a great price (£5, Music Zone), I snapped it up. In fact I couldn't wait to get my 'claws' on it. I was ... ...that she and he are cat people and that they musty live like man and wife. Irena, of course, thinks he is quite mad. Bones are found in the apartment - human bones - and Paul goes on the run, while Irena struggles with herself and her changing body, whilst falling deeply in love with Oliver.
So, on the whole I enjoyed this film again. Directed by Paul Schrader and a remake of the 1942 film, it is just shy of two hours long. Not a bad way to spend ...

The little men in Little Italy
Review of Mean Streets (Special Edition) by
Adziu
Advantages: Warm and realistic, as well as having one of De Niro's best performances
Disadvantages: Some might not like the lack of a solid plot
Mean Streets (1973) was the first major project that Martin Scorsese both wrote and directed for widespread distribution. As with his student films, he tried to recreate the familiar sights, sounds and colourful personalities of New York's Little Italy, the neighbourhood Scorsese grew up in. It's a film full of the youthful exuberance of a young director given a chance to prove himself, and while it lacks the polished, neat storytelling of later ... ...Admittedly, I came to Mean Streets thinking it would be a gangster movie, in the vein of Scorsese's most enduring 90s films such as Goodfellas and Casino, all top mafia gansters dodging bullets and trying to move up in the company - involving and often shocking motion pictures, but focusing on characters who need to exaggerate themselves in order to survive. I was surprised to find that at the heart of Mean Streets is its flawed and very human characters, ...

A film to watch over and over
Review of Main Hoon Na (Hindi Language) by
racheli1
Advantages: Finally - a well made film from Bollywood!
Disadvantages: n/a
Well, what can I say... being a big fan of Bollywood films and I was pleasantly surprised by this. My only reason for watching was Shah Rukh Khan - the only Bollywood actor today who can actually act - and the film being made by Karan Johar. The story involves Shah Rukh falling for the depressed Preity Zinta and sorting out her life by uniting her with her best friend Saif Ali Khan who is also in love with her. The story twists halfway though and ... ...fact that this was not the usual Bollywood ending. It was actually quite realistic which is so rare in Bollywood. What's also very different about this is that western culture is not seen as a bad thing - we have friends who like dating, mixed religions and cultures joining together and even if the making fun of Gujerati's is a bit over the top, it still makes you laugh. This is for once a believable Bollywood film - who would have thought that would ...
