Pure class
Review of In The Heat Of The Night DVD by sunmeilan

Advantages: Sidney Poitier
Disadvantages: None

...the best films I've seen in a long time. The film won an Oscar for Best Picture in 1967. The plot A senior police officer specialising in homicide, Virgil Tibbs, is passing through a small town on his way home to Philadelphia when he suddenly finds himself dragged to the local police station and accused of the murder of an important businessman. The only reason for the locals' suspicion of him is that he happens to be black. Eventually, after much ...
...is requested by his boss in Philadelphia to stay on and help the Chief solve the crime. The Chief is not happy that the "nigger" as he calls him has to stay around and does his best to persuade him to leave, but the wife of the murdered man, impressed by Tibbs' investigating skills, demands that Tibbs stays. Tibbs has the intelligence, but the Chief has local knowledge and - it is soon clear that the Chief cannot work without Tibbs and that Tibbs ... Read review

The Thomas Crown Affair - Mcqueen at his best
Review of The Thomas Crown Affair (Wide Screen) by Guzman

Advantages: Superb main character interaction
Disadvantages: Looking dated in some aspects

The combination of Faye Dunaway and Steve McQueen is I believe inspired. The sheer concept of McQueen playing a bored rich dilettante is a real step away from his normal roles. Dunaway plays her sultry self to the extreme once more in her role of an investigator for the insurance underwriters of bank that McQueen' character robs. Whilst she tries to catch McQueen out, Dunaway enters a relationship with him. Initially it is simply part of the job, ...
...to Dunaways' charms though and the relationship begins to blossom. Sensing that the robbery he had committed out of boredom could be the death of the one thing he has finally found meaning in he then astounds everybody with his next action. Using the people that he had employed to commit the crime in the first place, none of which knew each other he replaces the money that he stole in the opening scenes of the film. Of the two versions of this film ... Read review

Review of Life On Mars - Series 2 - Complete (Box Set) by MI9to5

Advantages: Fantastic Show
Disadvantages: NONE

Life on Mars was definitely my favourite TV programme and probably still is. Series one was fantastic and series two simply picked up from where it left off ********NB: I apologise now if you feel I have included too many quotes, I just wanted to highlight how good I feel the show is.******** Life on Mars tells the story of Sam Tyler, a police officer, who after being hit by a car woke up in 1973. He constantly questions his own sanity and at the ...
...the title track David Bowie's Life On Mars. All of the songs are authentic to the period and combined with the costumes, hairstyles, buildings and mannerisms of the show the feeling that you are in the 1970's is always prominent (and I wasn't even born then). The show itself is very well written and filmed. It is comical and satirical but also manages to hit the nail on the head on more than one occasion. The best thing however about this comedy ... Willie Beamen - what a player!!!
Review of Any Given Sunday (Special Director's Cut) (Wide Screen) by beanie8844

Advantages: good plot, great acting, fab ending
Disadvantages: not enough on field action, have to endure Willies vommiting

...neck!" Conclusion I think Any Given Sunday is won of the all-time greatest sports movies. Not only does it have a genuinely great cast and the acting is fantastic, but it explores some sides of American Football that not many people would know about, like illegal drug taking to enhance performance, physiotherapists who push players to play when perhaps they shouldn't because the pressure to win is so great and the ego's of some players. As I said ...
