Merchant, oh Merchant, where art thou Merchant
Review of The Merchant Of Venice DVD by doosh1989

Advantages: Fantastic scenery and brilliant cast
Disadvantages: Can be slow and difficult to follow

...of Venice Film Review The Merchant of Venice is a film adaptation of the Shakespeare comedy directed by Michael Radford. It was written by Shakespeare in 1594 and this is when the film is set. The film itself was released into cinemas in late 2004. 1594 was a golden year for Shakespeare as 1594 was the same year that another popular work; Romeo and Juliet was published. The film adaptation follows this theme of golden work as the storyline is incredibly ...
...therefore he asks his friend, the merchant Antonio for money. As he is waiting for his ships to arrive from the rest of the world he asks a Jew, Shylock (Al Pacino) to borrow 3000 ducats. Antonio enters into a bond with Shylock that if he cannot pay back his debts, Shylock can take 1lb of Antonio's flesh. In the end, Antonio's ships all failed to return meaning he couldn't pay back the debt so Shylock sticks to his word and demands a lb of his flesh. ... Read review

On a Mission
Review of The Mission (Special Edition) by Rogerbyname

Advantages: Beautiful cinematography and soundtrack, great cast
Disadvantages: Little humour

...soundtrack (written by Ennio Morricone). The plot covers the establishment of a Jesuit mission amongst a local native Indian tribe, the Guaranis, in Paraguay in the 18th century. Jeremy Irons stars alongside Robert de Niro as the missionaries meeting the challenges of working with the local peoples, personal demons and the constant threat from the new colonial masters of the region, the Portuguese. The plot is a masterly vehicle for both leading ...
...current imperialism. Other stars dot the cast list - Aidan Quinn, Ray McAnally, Cherie Lungie and Liam Neeson. The film won the Palm D'Ore in Cannes in 1986, follwed by a host of other awards at the Golden Globes and Oscars (including Best Picture and Best Original Score). There will be blood - oh yes there will!!
Review of There Will Be Blood DVD by Spottydog11

Advantages: Spooky, mad movie
Disadvantages: A bit long

There Will be Blood - I think this title is very fitting for this movie. It's like a warning, there will be blood and oh my gosh, how definitely true this statement was. There Will be Blood is a 2007 film staring Daniel Day Lewis in the lead role. He actually went on to win the 2007 Academy Award for best Actor for his portrayal of Daniel Plainview. Overall the film was nominated for eight Academy Awards. The film is set in California at the turn ...
...first 15 minutes or so there is no talking and the only sounds we hear is from the spooky cello and piano music. The scenery is quite dark and definitely paints the landscape like it must have been back then. It really suits this type of work as well, the dark, loneliness of the oil fields. It makes prospecting for oil look extremely hard and dangerous and not something you want to be involved in if you are just a lowly worker. Daniel Plainview receives ... Read review

Not even worth £1!
Review of The Social Climber DVD by disasterinbloom

Advantages: There aren't any!
Disadvantages: Where do I start? Bad acting, rubbish storyline....

...figuired it didn't matter if the film itself was ruubish, as at that price was so cheap. Oh how I was wrong!..... The storyline is pretty basic, with Jennifer Love Hewitt being a spoilt rich girl who wants to "increase her social position" by climbing that 'social ladder'. Things is, I'll be honest: after an hour of the film I turned it off. I refuse to watch the rest of it! I am a fan of Miss Love Hewitt, but in this film her acting was appaling! ... Read review

Love it!!!
Review of Step Up 2 The Streets DVD by gaetana

Advantages: Dancing
Disadvantages: No real story line

WOW love this DVD cannot get enough of it. It's quite different to the first though.More dancing, BETTER dancing. I was watching this with my sister and my friends I just can't get enough of it. It's one to watch if you're either at home with friends or partner. If you like films such as Oceans eleven and thrteen then you'll love this. Though the dacing is good, wait no good is an under statement it's FABULOUS but it's got no organised story plot ...
...Definitely one to watch. It's aimed at teenagers more than grown adults. I would most definitely recommend this to any on to watch either on a night in. all in all i love it for me the film is the one of the most compared to 'save the last dance'. ... Read review
