Close Encounters of the 40s Kind
Review of Brief Encounter DVD by Olly_Plimsoll

Advantages: Great dialogue, cinematography and acting
Disadvantages: Can be too quaint to be taken seriously by modern audiences.

...is equally valid really, but Brief Encounter’s method just feels more sophisticated and respectful to the audience, somehow, although in reality it’s hugely manipulative. The narrative also runs in a massively interesting fashion. We don’t understand exactly what’s happening between this curiously intense couple on the opening scene, and that’s because we’ve arrive halfway through. All the smouldering glances and clipped lines are gradually explained ...
...she’s an adulterous tramp. Brief Encounter, for all its occasional quaintness, is a deeply engaging character study as well as a doomed romance. It pokes gentle fun at middle-class obsessions with decorum and discretion, while celebrating the very British habit of articulating the most powerful and passionate emotions through mundane comments about train timetables and the weather. Much more than just another footnote classic in cinema history. ... Read review

It's a Classic!
Review of The Third Man DVD by hbgmobility

Advantages: Orson Wells, Great Music, Great Story
Disadvantages: it ends!

I had heard about the music, the zither music, and was really skeptical that this would work. It does, and it's amazing. It sets, keeps, and moves along the mood of the movie perfectly and is definitely an enhancement to the movie. In fact, the movie is worth watching just to see and hear how the music coordinates with the action. Orson Wells makes a powerful and compelling performance. Actually, everybody in the movie is interesting and turns in ...
...don't want to give away the plot, but be prepared for deep and intense betrayal. Sometimes finding out the truth doesn't set anybody free... The imagery in the movie, the light and shadows, are done beautifully. Everything works together to keep you glued to it to see what will happen next and how everybody will react to what will happen next. Even if you know the plot, watching how all the characters react and interact is a treat. I'm trying to ... Read review<
