Last Night I dreamt I went to Manderley Again

Advantages: A fantastic film full of drama, suspense and brilliant acting and writing
Disadvantages: None at all

...Max is not pining for Rebecca and the only person who had anything good to say about her was the virulent Mrs Danvers, so the new Mrs De Winter regains her confidence and decides to rebuild Manderley in a blaze of glory regaining her self respect and her husband's love. Cast: Laurence Olivier George Fortescue Maximilian 'Maxim' de Winter Joan Fontaine ... The Second Mrs. de Winter George Sanders Jack Favell Judith Anderson Mrs. Danvers Nigel Bruce ...
...shots in the same way Rebecca haunts the new Mrs De Winter. Hitchcock directs the film brilliantly creating a sweeping prison in Manderley and a brutal Prison warden in Mrs Danvers, he is subtle and knows when to allow his actors to overdo it and when to reign them in, the script is superb, barbed and knowing but leaving doubts and holes all the time for you to consider, this is a wonderfully paced, introspective film that demands further viewings, ...

JAMAICA INN “Oh Lord, we pray thee Not that wrecks should happen -but if they do happen- Thou wilt guide them to The Coast of Cornwall For the Benefit of the poor inhabitants” Introduction ‘Jamaica Inn’ is one of Alfred Hitchcock's films and probably one of his least typical works. The film is taken from the Daphne du Maurier book, adapted for the screen by Alfred Hitchcock. Made in 1939 it was after this film that he was enticed ...
...third The Birds in 1963) Jamaica Inn was the last film Hitchcock would make in England under British control and the production company, Mayflower Pictures was the company owned by Charles Laughton, the star of this film. It is worth remembering when criticising this film that it was made only 10 years after sound was introduced to motion pictures. Cinematography The film includes some great atmospheric cinematography courtesy of Bernard ...

Hitchcock's Final Plot [Film Only]

Advantages: Witty dialogue, sense of fun, good mix of characters
Disadvantages: Not the strongest story, opening is too long

...find Hitchcock’s final film, 1976’s Family Plot, marked a tentative return to form. It’s far from perfect, but much like the underrated Marnie, Family Plot seems harder to criticise for some of its dated elements so many years down the line, because for all of its contextually odd-sounding dialogue and hairstyles, as well as a staunch reliance on sets as opposed to on-location shoots, it feels like a ‘Hitchcock’ film should. In many ways Family Plot ...
...were seen to be ‘good’. Family Plot in effect makes a conscious attempt to turn back the clock to more light-hearted fare; Blanche is a far more active player in the story than her immediate predecessors and delights in delivering witty jibes and put-downs. Pretty, a touch over-the-top but essentially likable, she in many ways comes to embody the films own strengths and weaknesses. Blanche is a slightly dubious ‘psychic’ who seemingly makes her living ...

Often Overlooked But One Of Hitchcock's Best

Advantages: Great performances, story, direction, camara work
Disadvantages: None

This film is hugely under-rated in the Hitchcock filmography. Directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Cary Grant, Ingrid Bergman and Claude Rains this film must rank amongst one of the best thrillers of it's time, and any other for that matter. Why it is not spoken about in the same breath as North by Northwest or Night of The Hunter is a mystery to me. The film contains the perfect balance between dark thriller and dark romance and reaches a nail ...
...father commits suicide and in an attempt to prove her allegiance to the US cause agrees to be enlisted by US secret agent Devlin (Grant) to court and marry neo-nazi Alexander Sebastian (Claude Rains) in order to monitor Nazi activities. Sebastian learns that his wife is a spy and reluctantly through pressure from his mother he agrees to kill her. Realising her danger, Devlin, now realising he is in fact in love with the woman he formerly loathed, ...
