Bogart at his best
Review of The Maltese Falcon DVD by sunmeilan

Advantages: Superb dramatisation of the book
Disadvantages: None

...isn't missing one. Even worse, the police think that Sam may have something to do with the murder of his sister and a man called Joel Cairo threatens him at gunpoint. Eventually, he works out that what everyone is getting worked up about is a statuette called the Maltese Falcon, given to Charles V of Spain by the Knight Templars of Malta - people will apparently pay anything to get hold of it and Brigid appears to be the key. Will Sam help them find ...
...based on a book of the same name by Dashiell Hammett. Although this is not the only film of The Maltese Falcon that has been made, it is, as far as I and many a film buff is concerned, the definitive version, with Humphrey Bogart giving his arguably best performance ever. As Sam Spade, Bogart is a character of several layers. At first glance, he is as unpleasant as some of the criminals he chases - he sleeps with his partner's wife and is apparently ... Read review

A Wonderfully Original Movie
Review of The Misfits (Wide Screen) by goldenc4

Advantages: Original story, actors performances
Disadvantages: Knowing it's Monroe's final film, slightly slow in places

An Outline: ************ The Misfits was the last ever movie filmed starring the Hollywood icons that were Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe. However, despite the significance of this fact, it has been a relatively overlooked movie by film-lovers since its release in 1961. Over time it has gained increasing popularity and acclaim due to The Misfits original storyline and the casts impressive performances. However, I wish to review it purely to draw ...
...its free-spirited lead characters. The DVD Itself: ***************** The copy I have of this PG-rated film is the MGM DVD version. It is approximately 2 hours long and is in black & white. As to special features it contains only the Original Theatrical Trailer and interactive menus for chapter selection, etc. The theatrical trailer is actually quite interesting as it is produced in a very different style to those of modern movies. It is in black ... Read review

Sometimes you win sometimes you loose
Review of Match Point DVD by MI9to5

Advantages: Can be tense, shocking and unpredictable
Disadvantages: Appears to be a typical chick-flick on the surface

My reason for purchasing Match Point in the first instance was quite simple, Jonathon Rhys Myers was in it and for me that was as good an excuse as any to buy a new film. I'm so glad however that I did buy this film because not only does Rhys Myers play a fantastic part and look extremely handsome for the main but the film has become a firm favourite of mine. Chris (Jonathon Rhys Meyers) is an Irish tennis coach who after coaching Tom, the son of ...
..."There are moments in a match when the ball hits the top of the net and for a split second it can go either forward or fall back. With a little luck it goes forward and you win. Or maybe it doesn't and you lose." This line sums up the double-edged sword that the film is, as on more than one occasion the ball may go forward and Chris may uphold the life he has dreamed of but just as easily it may fall backwards and the world he has come to love may ... It's a Wonderful Film
Review of It's A Wonderful Life DVD by Maximus-Qualitus

Disadvantages: None

IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE. ******************************* Produced and Directed by Frank Capra. Starring: Jimmy Stewart as George Bailey. Donna Reed as Mary (Mrs Bailey). Henry Travers as Clarence the angel. Lionel Barrymore as Mr Potter. James Stewart once said this was HIS favourite performance of all the films he had starred in. My favourite film of all time, something I oddly share with Dave Lister! I really should get out more. Introduction: ...

A Fantastic film well worth watching
Review of A Beautiful Mind DVD by PeterTruss26

Advantages: Good film rooted in a real life story with good performances by the actors
Disadvantages: None that I can think of

...enjoyed this film. It is a emotional story which has a few twist and turns to keep you on your toes with some action scenes enlivening it. This is as well as a gritty realism from the true story behind the film of John Nash's struggle with mental illness. Lead actor Russel Crowe puts in a convincing and engaging performance as the brilliant but afflicted mathamatician John Nash. All the characters work well with Connelly combining well with Crowe ...
