Alfie (original 1965)
Advantages: a product of its time. highly watchable Disadvantages: slow in places
...performance is just brilliant.
Alfie is a story of a young cockney limo driver who is out to have a good time. Set in the 1960's, when single people - who perhaps, single men were a lot more relaxed about commitment. Of course, the perspective of the film is definitely a male one, and the women in the film do not share the same relaxed views about commitment, in fact quite the opposite. This film was made in 1965 - two years before the Abortion ... ...abortionists' - and the original 1965 Alfie offers this true raw sense of realism. The re-make whilst being highly watchable and entertaining, just did not have the same effect. In the 1965 version, Alfie's guilt and self -loathing is visible, he truly did want to change his ways in that moment. ...

Carve Her Name With Pride. A classic DVD
Advantages: A true story of a young woman during WW11 Disadvantages: May be uncomfortable viewing for some
...The Plot Carve Her Name With Pride is a dramatic story. It follows the true story of War heroine Violette Szabo. Violette, a fluent French speaker, who after the death of her husband, volunteered during the Second World War to be parachuted into France as a secret agent to re-organise the shattered French resistance movement. Her mission is fraught with danger and although she manages to parachute in successfully and obtain supplies for the Normandy ... ...in war torn France. Carve Her Name With Pride is well worth watching as it is not only a true story but an unusual slant on the typical war film. The subject matter is uncomfortable viewing at times yet it is in no way gratuitous and there are no horrific scenes of torture, yet you are in no doubt about what is happening. Violette Szabo was clearly a very brave young woman who believed in what she was doing. She took risks that I cannot Imagine myself ...

Caine and Walters give a good show
Advantages: Plot, lead actors Disadvantages: Drags a little in places
...stage, one of these being Educating Rita. In 1983, director Lewis Gilbert took Russell's play and adapted it for the big screen, making it into a feature film and drawing in top actor Michael Caine. It was also Julie Walters' first major feature film.
The script was originally intended for the stage, and was thus just a dialogue, taking place entirely in an office. For the screen, it was amended and several locations were used to make it more appealing. ... ...who are merely spoken about in the original play.
The plot, however, does not really change. Essentially, it is the tale of a young working class woman, Rita (Julie Walters) who embarks on an Open University course to study literature. She finds herself lumbered with Dr Frank Bryant (Michael Caine), a grumpy English prof with a penchant for a bit of alcohol on a frequent basis. The pair of them struggle through her course together, becoming platonic ...

a good movie
Advantages: good storyline and nice ending Disadvantages: none
The film’s rhythm is so ease, that after one and another detail, it has to show a strong atmosphere of family. Though the father and the son struggled with poor life, they never gave up,as they believed happyness came from the pursuit and efforts .I am moved by Will Smith's performance. As the poster shows, the father and son’s affection is exaggerated on the film. And the father loved his children, even in difficult circumstances, life distress, ... ...son his true love. When the Gardner pulled his son's hands, waiting for getting into a homeless shelter in a long queue, will you be moved to tears? When adversity comes, Gardner did not give up, but continuous took efforts, and he had a dream in mind, everything will become a good dream, he believed that this dream will be realized. Before Sunset
Advantages: brilliant performance, clever and engaging story Disadvantages: none
After watching Before Sunrise I was hesitating whether to watch Before Sunset that day or wait not to ruin the experience. Usually the sequences are worse and spoil even the original movie. If you haven’t seen Before Sunset yet I tell you in advance that it won’t spoil the original film. Before Sunset catches up the story nine years after Befor Sunset ends. The film was released in 2004 so exactly nine years later. This film a drama as well. The ... ...the sequel’s screenplay. Before Sunset takes place in Paris and it is very similar to the first part: the main characters are the same and they walk a lot and talk. The film is quite short, only 80 minutes. The classification of this film is 15 years and over too. The sequel stands individually as well but it is more enjoyable if you watch the first part previously. Main cast ------------- Julie Delpy – Céline Ethan Hawke – Jesse Plot ------- Nine ...
