Great action Great cast Great story Great movie
Advantages: Acting, Action and plot Disadvantages: none
Desperate Measures is a very good film that didn't do as well at the Box Office as I feel it deserved to. It has an original plot and some good action so is makes good entertainment.
The plot involves Andy Garcias character Frank Connor trying to find a compatible bone marrow donor for his son. The problem is the only match is the very evil murderer Peter McCabe played by Michael Keaton. He makes a miraculous escape and runs round the hospital killing ... ...alive to save his son but as McCabe proves that it easier said than done.
There is plenty action to keep the action fan happy. There are explosions and stunts galore that complement the plot rather than just having action for the sake of it. The acting is superb from all the actors. Michael Keaton really does seem truly evil and has a great skill to stare at people in a way that would send a shiver down there spine. He really does a good job at ...

The misfortune of being the black sheep
Advantages: Strong, inspired acting by main protagonists; intricate, complex story; refreshing edge to the trilogy Disadvantages: Clumsy and cartoonish; pretentious and overly operatic; unsubtle; in the shadow of its predecessors; too self-conscious; underrated and smeared by critics
The release of the third part of the Godfather saga in 1990 is one of the most critically controversial films in history. The sixteen years that followed were confirmed by director Francis Ford Coppola to be a closure, albeit an ambiguous one, to the original two films was one that did not promise, nor was expected to promise a conclusion to the story of the Corleone family. When it finally came to cinemas, not only was it widely loathed, but everything ... ...was essentially a spin-off of the Oscar-acclaimed classics, and ever since, the Godfather: Part III has had its reputation tarnished. However, over the additional sixteen years following, opinion towards it has meallowed, though the insult it hurled at its audience will not be forgotten. But for all the smearing of a flawed film, it is unfair to confine it to the Hall of Movie Shame, not only because it does hold merits, but it also adds a refreshing ...

Black Night for me the day I watched it
Advantages: Young Michael Douglas in a period piece Disadvantages: Slow, difficult to uderstand, bad soundtrack
A Ridley Scott action thriller with Micahel Douglas and Andy Garcia in it sounds great! Nice macho picture on the DVD box for the ladies to swoon over and the promise of car chases and fist fights for the boys - oh, wasn't it great in the 80s before the notion of PC correctness crept in?
You settle on the sofa with a bottle of beer and a bag of popcorn, ready to be pleasantly entertained while feeling slightly superior - 'A guilty pleasure' as one ... ...Slow action? Unbelievable American hooker? What's going on?
I was sadly disappointed by this film. I'm a big fan of Lethal Weapon etc, and thought this was going to be a buddy cop movie of the same ilk -perhaps with a bit of Jackie Chan action thrown in for good measure.
I found it was hard to understand the actors, and had a slow plot. Worst of all, I found it was slightly insulting to the Chinese. The lead characters didn't take kindly to a foreign ...

When a man really loves his wife
Advantages: brilliant performance, great story Disadvantages: none
...comedy but there are evenings when I need some more touching films. Yesterday I watched When A Man Loves A Woman. It is a drama about a family and although there are several other characters in the film the focus is on this family. The film was directed by Luis Mandoki. He is a Mexican film director, his most famous films are El Secreto, Message in a Bottle and Angel Eyes. The classification of When A Man Loves A Woman is 15 years and over as it ... ...to be a happy family. When Alice and Michael go out to celebrate their anniversary Amy takes care of the girls. Alice drinks very much so by the time they go home she is completely drunk. The Porsche’s alarm disturbs her so much that she throws eggs on it. Actually she is irritated by almost everything. Michael offers her to go together to Mexico. They ask the grandparents to come and take care of the girls. They have a lovely holiday in Mexico and ...

Unhappi - Ness takes on Capone
Advantages: Great gangster movie, brilliant period drama Disadvantages: Not many but a couple of dull performances
...as they are stuck in the midst of the prohibition gloom, not even the police seem adverse to a bribe at all, especially when the man pulling most of the strings is the ruthless gangster Al Capone (Robert de Niro). Desperate to bring law and order back to the streets of the city, a crack force of agents above corruption, labelled "The Untouchables", is banded together under the guidance of federal agent Elliot Ness (Kevin Costner). Along with old ... ...they set about cleaning up the streets and in particular the underground dealings of Al Capone.
Despite their best attempts, Capone always seems to be one step ahead of them as Ness's straight laced tactics fail to make any impact. Forced to play Capone at his own Ruthless games, Ness and his men take the battle to him using his own ruthless tactics to try and capture him.
