Stop breaking my balls
Advantages: Pure brilliance all round Disadvantages: None
...be alone in saying that The Sopranos TV series is one of the best dramas i have ever seen and no doubt in the top 5 US TV exports in recent years. It has everything you could want from a mob drama with just superb acting, writing and direction in possibly every episode. As a treat to myself, i recently re-started watching my Sopranos dvds again with my girlfriend who used to moan about me watching this now recommends we put it on, progress! Not sure ... ...asked for regular updates on the storyline, definately progress!! Anyway, i will endeavour to provide an in depth review of season 1 and provide purchase advice. PLOT - Tony Soprano is a top end mobster in the New Jersey based Di-Meo crime family. He is a husband to wife Carmela and father to his two children Meadow and Anthony Jnr. Juggling his time with his cosa nostra family and his real family cause him to have panic attacks which he aims to ...

Fourth Time Around
Advantages: Continuation of a groundbreaking drama Disadvantages: Adult drama, with adult language, and extreme violence
...was a low point for the Sopranos in many fans estimation, and I initially agreed with some of their sentiments unlike earlier seasons I found myself glancing at the clock occasionally during some episodes waiting for the story to kick in. The first time I watched this season I did think that maybe the show had peaked and was on the wind down, bereft of ideas the writers were content to give us endless minutes of Tony and Carmela arguing as their ... ...anywhere. I waited patiently for the Season to get going whilst my finger hovered over FF button on the remote.
The Season eventually did get going and produced some worthy and memorable episodes, but the Show as a whole didn't grip me the way Seasons 1 through 3 did. Maybe it was my expectations that were at fault, the Sopranos had raised the crossbar so high that it was nay on impossible to sustain the momentum. At least that was my initial impression ...

8mm DVD Review
Advantages: Characters, Tension. Disadvantages: Not for everyone.
...(Chris Bauer) 8mm exhibits bad taste and may be shocking to most people, but to me it felt like a movie with serious intent, especially seen as though it tracks the descent of Tom Welles (Nicolas Cage), as the ordinary guy, into the nasty, immoral world of underground pornography. The character, understandably, is tormented, mentally, as he simply cannot accept why all the evil surrounding him exists. Notoriously panned by critics upon its release, ... ...Carter), Welles is handed an 8mm recording of the young girl being murdered- dubbed a "snuff film"- and has to uncover whether the film is real or not. Joel Schumacher brings the typical suspense and twisted horror that made Se7en so popular in its time, though, in a sickening kind of judgement, I must admit that I enjoyed 8mm a lot more. The atmosphere is one of the main features that I judge this film as being a success. The dark, surprisingly ...

Tony takes the Fifth
Advantages: As good as ever Disadvantages: None
...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cert: 18
The fifth series of the Sopranos finally won the Emmy for Outstanding Dramatic Series, an accolade that it should have received for each of its previous 4 seasons. So why did season 5 pick up the Emmy were other years the show failed to beat of the likes of the West wing? Probably because the West Wing represents the ideal America with an ideal President whereas the Sopranos represent an America the establishment would ... ...knock the West Wing, it's a fine dramatic series but it plays it safe in away the Sopranos never would. The fact that the Sopranos won the Emmy for season 5 shows that by this stage even the Academy could no longer ignore this ground breaking show.
The fifth series is indeed worthy of its Emmy, plotlines were tighter and better developed than in the previous season. The injection of new blood in the likes of Tony Blundetto (Steve Buscemi), "Feech" ...

Murder and blackmail Coen-style
Advantages: Superb acting, both tragic and blackly funny Disadvantages: None
...I at least remember what the plot is. One thing I could remember about it was that it was directed by the Coen brothers, and although I have watched one or two bad Coen films, they are generally pretty good. So I decided to give it another try. Thank goodness I did. I'm not sure whether I was drunk the first time I watched it or what, but this is a film that I really enjoyed and thought had some superb performances.
The plot
Ed Crane is a barber ... ...a barber; he fell into the job after marrying his wife, whose father owned a barber shop. His life should be good, but there is something missing and his wife, Doris, is having an affair with her boss. When Ed is given the opportunity to invest some money in an enterprise, he is determined to raise the money. His first port of call is his wife's boss, Big Dave, whom he successfully blackmails to the tune of $10,000. All seems to be going swimmingly; ...
