I remember it around the first time.
Advantages: you might watch this movie Disadvantages: it is old
...people reading this review of the dvd the Lost World will think is about the recent one, based around Jurassic Park. I am sorry to disappoint people because the film I am writing about is the first film, which this title, which was released in 1925.
I came across this film in the bargain bucket at my local WH Smith, for the grand price of £5. As I enjoy old films, (I blame Saturday morning picture shows as a kid, which had films like Tarzan, etc) ... ...my money over and took the film home. Before I describe the film, there going to be a short history of the film just to set the picture. The picture was release in 1925, and cost 1 million dollars to produce, at the time making it one of the most expensive films to be produce. It was also the first in flight movie, being shown on an Imperial Airways flight from London to Paris in 1925. The film was withdrawn from distribution in 1929, because of ...

A Passage to India [1984]
.
.
.
In the film which is an almost faithful adaptation of E. M. Forster's novel A PASSAGE TO INDIA (1924), Adela Quested (Judy Davis) and Mrs. Moore (Peggy Ashcroft) travel to India to visit the latter's son Ronny (Nigel Havers), who is also Miss Quested's fiancé. Ronny works there as a civil magistrate who is surrounded by other English employees, and these prefer to stay secluded in a milieu which they created to ... ...but this experience ends as a rather tragic one for both. They get the chance to meet Dr. Aziz who seems to have a revolutionary spirit that is not satisfied with how the English treat his fellow countrymen. When he talks to these two ladies, he notices that they are different from the rest, or so he thinks, and he invites them to go with him and discover certain mysterious caves in India. Here things take a different turn. They start by visiting ...

The Remains of the Day - Repressed Love, Beautifully Acted
Advantages: Great lead performances and supporting cast. Disadvantages: Claustrophobic, lacks excitement
...with Miss Kenton (Thompson) and the film takes place with events leading up to the Second World War. During their time they form a close relationship but repress true feelings for each other. The subplot involves meetings between diplomats taking place within the hall which are to shape political foreign relations between America, Britain and Germany and the controversy that surrounds Lord Darlington’s friendship with right-wing extremists. The story ... ...during their time working at the hall and then 20 years later when they both reflect on their time together. The films famous supporting cast are excellent but it is Hopkins and Thompson who give the film subtlety and meaning. Hopkins deeply conveys a man unable to display political views or express desire properly and who has much dignity and authority but who is torn inside. The settings are quite claustrophobic but genuine as most of the film ...

From Russia with Pfeiffer and Connery
Advantages: Cast, premise... Disadvantages: ... just too long for its own good.
The Russia House is an international espionage thriller which, according to the blurb, is "A filmmaking tour de force and incredibly sophisticated, suspenseful and sexy entertainment". Don't believe the blurb - but don't necessarily be put off watching this film, either. Sean Connery stars as British publisher Barley Blair, who is sent a manuscript by Katya (Michelle Pfeiffer). This manuscript was written by a Soviet scientist and contains details ... ...a belter of a film. The plot is intriguing enough to give plenty of material for a normal film, but unwisely The Russia House pushes at the two hour mark, and there just isn't quite enough depth in the storyline to sustain it. It could have worked better if the characters had been explored, but really few of them are more than caricatures, with only Connery and perhaps Fox delving into their deeper selves. There's quite a lot of suspense in the film ...

Sex, Drugs, Mick Jagger, and Loads of Androgyny
Advantages: trippy, drugged-out, crazy, funny, Mick Jagger! Anita Pallenberg! Swinging London! Disadvantages: really violent, boring at the start, not much plot
‘Performance’ is more AN EXPERIENCE than a film. The plot itself is largely insignificant, since it is the visual aspects of this film that make it worth watching. Chas (James Fox) is a ruthless East London gangster. In an early scene, Chas and his chums pour acid all over a car in a garage as they tie and gag the guard and shave his head. However, Chas’s sadistic ways come back to haunt him as he is attacked in his own flat. His ... ...chooses the most unlikely of locations, a hippy love-nest in Notting Hill. In case you don’t remember, 1970s Notting Hill was a lot less posh than it is today with its Hugh Grant image. So, Chas moves in with Turner (Mick Jagger) and his Turner’s lovers, Pherber (Anita Pallenberg) and Lucy (Michèle Breton). From here, the plot is pushed to the back burner as the film explores identity, drugs, and sexuality.
I found the beginning to be ...
