Mr Jones
Review of Mr Jones DVD by
fairyfaye22
Advantages: Richard Gere....
Disadvantages: Quite slow
...seemed kind of unemotional towards Mr Jones and, most of the time, his behaviour was much too extreme to really be able to relate to him.
It is unfortunate that I am disappointed and I actually wouldn't watch this film again. It was also very slow starting and I felt quite uncomfortable watching some scenes. ...

Zodiac - A film classic
Review of Zodiac DVD by
layton101
Advantages: Stars Jake Gylanhaal brilliant actor, As good as Fight Club & Seven
Disadvantages: Twists in film not as unpredictable as in Seven but still good
...such as fight club because Zodiac is based on a true story and actual events however we are left guessing throughout the film. We know that the Zodiac was never officially caught but we are left with a pretty certain opinion of who he was and when you see the film you will realise this. We also never knew why the Zodiac carried out these killings, because the film is based on a true story and because the Zodiac was never officially caught this makes ...

Bad Moon Rising
Review of Zodiac DVD by
afy9mab
Advantages: A well-crafted film.
Disadvantages: A lengthy running time.
...60s, a killer calling himself Zodiac terrorises the inhabitants of San Francisco and taunts the police with cryptic letters. When he sends a complex cryptogram to The San Francisco Chronicle, it catches the eye of cartoonist and amateur puzzle-solver Robert Graysmith. Though the killer confounds the police in four jurisdictions, the young artist gets closer to the murderer than anyone else.
Director David Fincher is well known for his attention ... ...better to make a film of one of the biggest and most horrific unsolved cases in legal history? Fincher tunes into the period in a remarkable way, effectively recreating the look and feel of 1970s new wave movies and layering period detail onto every frame. You can almost feel the static from the manmade fibres in every outfit and the preponderance of beige that characterised the pre-disco post-Summer of Love era. He employs a palette of sepias and ...

More signs than the Zodiac
Review of Zodiac DVD by
christianfilmcritic
Advantages: Intense, realistic and some good performances
Disadvantages: It is quite long
...solving the riddle of the Zodiac killer, Chronicle cartoonist Robert Graysmith is still following up leads as he believes he is closing down on the killer.
Once in a blue moon a film comes along which grabs your attention to the extent that you stop everything else that you were doing and become transfixed, unaware of anything else except what is happening on the screen. One such film is David Fincher's "Zodiac" which retells the true story of the ... ...of San Francisco in the 60s and 70s.
For me I had read the hype over the film but as is often the case was not expecting it to live up to all it's acclaim, thankfully it did and in some ways surpassed it. Part of the reason why this film bit me in the ass and made me pay attention is that it is not like your usual serial killer films. Yes a big part of the film is solving the mystery as to who the killer is as well as the unravelling of the clues, ...

Death as the Route to Life
Review of Ghost Dog - The Way Of The Samurai DVD by
Volta120
Advantages: Offbeat, humorous and thought-provoking
Disadvantages: A little too offbeat for some
...The Basic Plot
Ghost Dog (Forest Whitaker) is an assassin living in Jersey City (although, we're never told that) who holds true to Bushido, the ancient Japanese chivalric code of the Samurai, and is guided in particular by the tenets of Hagakure, a series of commentaries and guidelines that were outlined in the early 18th century. The Samurai is a servant or retainer who pledges his life and sword to a master, and in Ghost Dog's case his ... ...several years before (or so Ghost Dog thinks) and by so doing unwittingly earned the future assassin's loyalty. Between jobs Ghost Dog lives in a shack on the roof of a building with only some carrier pigeons and some books to keep him company. His only human friends are a Haitian ice-cream vendor and chatterbox, Raymond (Isaach de Bankolé), who can only speak French, and a precocious-but-sweet little girl, Pearline (Camille Winbush), with whom Ghost ...
