A tale of a father/son bond between strangers
Review of Kolya DVD by
MrWeeble
Advantages: A beautiful moving film
Disadvantages: in Czech so bad-news for subtitle-phobes
Kolya is a Czech film set in the final months of Communist rule in the former Czechoslovakia. Louka, a formerly world-class cellist has been reduced to poverty due to his political views. Unable to play in the great symphony orchestras, he scrapes a living playing at weddings and funerals, with some extra cash earnt re-gilting gravestone engravings. This barely covers his modest lifestyle and the only joy in his life is the bottle and seducing young ... ...forced to take care of Kolya as to do otherwise would be to reveal the fraudulent nature of his marriage.
Kolya speaks no Czech, and Louka knows precious little Russian. Kolya resents this man who has appeared in his life, he just wants to be with his mother or grandmother. Louka resents Kolya for the responsibility that he now has to undertake as well as seeing him as a constant reminder of his nation's suppression under Soviet Russian rule. However ...

Sometimes you win sometimes you loose
Review of Match Point DVD by
MI9to5
Advantages: Can be tense, shocking and unpredictable
Disadvantages: Appears to be a typical chick-flick on the surface
My reason for purchasing Match Point in the first instance was quite simple, Jonathon Rhys Myers was in it and for me that was as good an excuse as any to buy a new film. I'm so glad however that I did buy this film because not only does Rhys Myers play a fantastic part and look extremely handsome for the main but the film has become a firm favourite of mine.
Chris (Jonathon Rhys Meyers) is an Irish tennis coach who after coaching Tom, the son of ... ..."There are moments in a match when the ball hits the top of the net and for a split second it can go either forward or fall back. With a little luck it goes forward and you win. Or maybe it doesn't and you lose."
This line sums up the double-edged sword that the film is, as on more than one occasion the ball may go forward and Chris may uphold the life he has dreamed of but just as easily it may fall backwards and the world he has come to love may ...

A Fantastic film well worth watching
Review of A Beautiful Mind DVD by
PeterTruss26
Advantages: Good film rooted in a real life story with good performances by the actors
Disadvantages: None that I can think of
...enjoyed this film. It is a emotional story which has a few twist and turns to keep you on your toes with some action scenes enlivening it. This is as well as a gritty realism from the true story behind the film of John Nash's struggle with mental illness. Lead actor Russel Crowe puts in a convincing and engaging performance as the brilliant but afflicted mathamatician John Nash. All the characters work well with Connelly combining well with Crowe ...

Really a Beautiful Mind
Review of A Beautiful Mind DVD by
gemsarchitect
Advantages: Superb at all aspects
Disadvantages: nothing at all
A Beautiful Mind….
Really I can say a beautiful mind of Producer, of Director of Writer and of-course of Actor Russell Crowe.
This movie is one of my favorite movies and I have seen it at least five times.
This movie is based on best-seller book as A Beautiful Mind by Sylvia Nasar.
Story starts from Princeton University where John Nash (Russell Crowe) got admission as a new graduate student, where he meets with Charles, his roommate and both ... ...the concept 'governing dynamics' a mathematics theory.
After completing his work he was appointed at USA's prestigious technical institute MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).
In MIT he started to teach calculus, and he placed some interesting problems before his students, and told them that some students can solve this in within hours, someone take days, someone even months and years also.
One of his girl student Alicia Larde , solved ...
