The Mafia ain't got nothing on this guy......
Advantages: Some powerful moments and acting Disadvantages: Not as good as it should have been
I had visions of this being a masterpiece, it had been hyped up so much. What with awards nominations and rave reviews, big names such as director Ridley Scott and actors Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe, and it being based on quite an interesting true story, I was really looking forward to it.
And yes, it is good. Was it as good as I had expected? Probably not. It follows the the life of drug lord Frank Lucas (Denzel) who sets his business in ... ...the biggest drug runners in New York. After many failures and finding himself at the last chance saloon as far as his career goes, detective Ritchie Roberts (Crowe) tags onto the rumour mill and slowly but surely edges towards catching Lucas. This would be a multi-billion dollar operation stopped in its tracks. Or, it could be disastrous. Either way, one of them will find their career is over....for good.
The acting from the two leads, let me just ...

Not Vintage but Palatable
Advantages: Entertaining for the most with some enjoyable moments of humour Disadvantages: Drags its feet too often and Crowe's annoyingly fake British accent
...Max Skinner (Russell Crowe) a high powered British stockbroker, whose aptitude and arrogance makes him as many enemies as friends suddenly finds his life taking a different track as he unexpectedly inherits his Uncles house and Vineyard in France. Journeying across the channel to make a quick sale on his inheritance he suddenly starts to reminisce about his childhood with his Uncle and whether his high pressure career is indeed what he wants from ... ...Scott at the directorial helm, a man who has made such visual spectaculars such as "Gladiator", but also it stars Russell Crowe who is more known for more serious roles. But curiosity got the better of me and whilst it is by no means up to their usual high standards it is a pleasant, often amusing way to spend a couple of hours. The film is adapted from Peter Mayle's novel of the same name, a writer who some may recognize as he also wrote the novel ...

See Spot Run.... Nope wrong movie
Advantages: Nice easygoing film, lots of talent. Disadvantages: A bit slow moving, shows that it's low budget
Spotswood is an unusual film. It has the quirkiness which somehow seems to go with most Australian films. It is based, of all places, in a shoe factory in a small town. But this is a film not about shoes, but the people who work, live and breathe for the company, and managers who try to keep it going despite the odds. In this small town, it is as if the clock has stopped somewhere in the past, and they still all believe in a job for life.
I picked ... ...Hopkins in. By the time this film was made he had been in the business 25 years, and was therefore by this time a very experienced actor. He had also already done Silence of The Lambs. But as much as I respect this actor, I had never come across this film. He plays Errol Wallace, an efficiency expert, who routinely recommends downsizing of businesses so as to make more profit. Faced with this company, the solution seems obvious, but he reckoned without ...

3 classics NOT for the faint hearted!
Advantages: 3 classics in one Disadvantages: Excessive violence and brutality may be too much to handle for some
Well who ever had the idea to put these 3 films together, some may say needs his/her head examined. These films are 3 of the most brutal and violent films i have ever watched, and i loved everyone of them!
SCUM - this was made in 1978 and released a year after with the intention of a BBC t.v release only. Such was it's success on t.v it was shortly after released onto VHS. At the time the makers were in two minds whether to show this film on t.v ... ...in a borstal following the story of a young offender whos quest is to become "the Daddy" of the institution. The language is coarse and there is quite a bit of racist dialogue which adds to the realism and believeability of the film. The effects are realistic and not over the top, the only scenes of violence in this picture are those of scraps and brawls between inmates really and they are done in a way that show the audience how life must have been ...

Understanding A Beautiful Mind.
Advantages: An excellent award winning drama, based on a true story. Disadvantages: None!
My Reason For Purchasing A Beautiful Mind DVD. I wrote this review a year or so ago for another review site which has since closed. I thought I would upload it here as A Beautiful Mind is one of my favourite Drama films ever and I just wanted to recommend it and give some opinions on it. There is quite a few reviews already about it, but I just wanted to give my two cents worth also. A Beautiful mind is one of my favourite Russell Crowe Movies. ... ...I watched this film a few years ago at the Movie house and I enjoyed it so much, that I bought it on DVD when it first was released. I have watched it several times over the years and each time I do, I love it more and always seem to pick up on something I missed in the film the previous time I watched it. This really is an excellent film that really will keep you glued to your seat in my opinion. Well this Movie was first released on December 21, ...
