A revenge mission
Advantages: Brilliant cast and story Disadvantages: none
...high quality. The 2005 film, Munich is no different. Munich tells the story of the Israeli government retaliation for the assassination of eleven Israeli athletes by the Palestinian terrorist group known as Black September, at the Munich Olympics in 1972. Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir recruits a group of Mossad agents led by Avner (Eric Bana) with a mission to locate and kill those men responsible for the assassination. Avner is joined by four ... ...the actual events of the Munich assassinations. However the retaliation aspect of the film is more fictional. The cast are excellent, especially, Eric Bana who excels in the lead role as Avner. It is a well written story with some great characters that explores a country’s desire for revenge. It is worth noting that this has some violent and graphic scenes that not everyone will appreciate. I thought that it was refreshing to see Daniel Craig in ...

Layer Cake Film Review
Advantages: Characters Disadvantages: Gets compared to the American flicks
...debut with British gangster flick Layer Cake, an adaptation of J.J. Connolly's novel. Daniel Craig stars as "XXXX", who proclaims himself as a "businessman" rather than a gangster (he hates guns and prefers to keep a low profile). His original plan is to retire from the cocaine business for good, but before he can do that he must first search for his boss’s runaway junkie daughter and attempt to settle a massive drug deal gone badly wrong. As the ... ...you didn't know already). Layer Cake never really threatens to topple some of America's finest gangster flicks, but it never really attempts to. It has its own distinctive style: it's neither overly gory nor overly bleak; instead, it's memorable for its touches of intelligence and humour. It prefers the laid-back approach to the "smash-bang-wallop" approach, and although it won't stand out among the endless catalogue of hits in the same genre, you ...

My #1 favourite film of all time.
Advantages: Great performances and a great story. Disadvantages: None.
Many people think Sam Mendes's first movie American Beauty was his best as it won all the oscars including Best Director for himself. But I disagree.
The story is about Michael Sullivan (Tom Hanks), a lifelong gangster who is on the run with his son with a sadistic hitman (Jude Law) on hot pursuit. John Rooney (Paul Newman) has got the very thing he wants but Nitti (Stanley Tucci) is heading the operation. The film also stars Daniel Craig, Jeniffer ... ...actors (Tom Hanks and oscar -nominated Paul Newman) lead the all-star cast but in my personal opinion Jude Law gave the best performance as the clever, sly, sadisitc hitman Maguire. It's good to see him in a role where he does not play one of his type-cast characters from a chick-flick. Paul Newman deserved his oscar nomination as John Rooney, a father-like figure to Michael. Tom Hanks is good as always, the brilliant way his character could not ...

A Force To Be Reckoned With
Advantages: Very entertaining view of a period of history Disadvantages: ...although its not very factual
...exploring issues issues that Queen Elizabeth faced during her life. The film starts by demonstrating that there is religious and political turmoil between the Catholics and the Protestants in England. Such a powerful turmoil, that it dominants almost every decision that people make. The film illustrates this throughout the film but it is most obvious when it shows the division of the royal family, when Queen Mary asks Elizabeth (her successor) to ... ...England. In a tactical move, Elizabeth says, she will follow as her conscience guides her.
In addition to the political religious turmoil, highlighted is the role of women in society as second class citizens. This is ironic as the monarch is the most powerful being in the country. The division between womens roles is particularly highlighted when her advising counsil keep on pressurising her to marry inorder to produce a heir to secure the throne. ...

Toby Jones is...Truman Capote
Advantages: Great acting, direction, story Disadvantages: We've heard it before
...a completely different approach.
Infamous is nowhere near as dark a film as Capote. Instead of opening with a scene depict the murders of the Clutters, Infamous opens with a dinner party reflecting Truman's socialite status. This is an aspect of Truman that the film draws heavily on often as a comedic device. Infamous depicts the life of Truman Capote as he investigates the events of the murder of a family in Holcomb, Kansas; the research that would ... ...film are in the opinion of this reviewer, too dramatised and exaggerated to be consider believable. This is of course a huge area to fail in when attempting to tell a true story. Other than this, Infamous is largely notable and I would recommend it even to the Capote fans. ...
