"Love is a Weakness"
Review of Mona Lisa DVD by
sunmeilan
Advantages: It's British, Bob Hoskins
Disadvantages: The rest of the cast, tedious plot
...film, so seeing advertisements for Mona Lisa free with the Times this weekend, I made sure I got hold of a copy. Mona Lisa is a film I remember coming out in the 80s when I was in my teens, although I never actually saw it at the time. I wasn't expecting a brilliant film; although the names of the actors - Bob Hoskins, Robbie Coltrane, Michael Caine - led me to believe that it would be pretty good. To be honest, I was disappointed. This is a fairly ... ...skills - he was nominated for an Oscar for this role.
The story
George is an 'odd job man' living in London who has a number of dodgy contacts. One day he meets a high class prostitute called Simone and ends up becoming her chauffeur. Their relationship is initially fiery, but they soon come to appreciate each other. George is intrigued by Simone's lifestyle; all the more so because an acquaintance of his is also interested in exactly what it is ...

★TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE STAR ★
Review of Little Voice DVD by
Morning_Becomes_Electra
Advantages: A FILM NOT TO BE MISSED!
Disadvantages: I cant think of any.
★ ♦♦ Little Voice ♦♦ ★
♦♦ Set in a shabby seaside town this rare gem of a film stars Ewan McGregor, Jane Horrocks, Michael Caine and Brenda Blethyn. Directed by Mark Herman And released in 1998.The Genre is Comedy/Drama/Romance ~Taken from the play by Jim Cartwright 'The rise and fall of Little Voice'. Which was written as a vehicle for Jane Horrocks to showcase her amazing ability to impersonate great ... ...Little voice (Jane Horrocks) is the name of the main character, well it's actually Laura, but that fact is only mentioned once by Little Voice herself in a fit of anger to her Mother in the later stages of the film . She appears to be around age twenty though this is never confirmed. Little voice is a painfully shy and quiet girl, rarely leaving the confines of her bedroom, and never leaving the safety of her house. When she does talk, which is rarely, ...

Magicical movie with a magical plot.
Review of The Prestige DVD by
anakha6
Advantages: Excellent special effects, gripping story, good acting.
Disadvantages: Slow moving story line.
...plot and impressive special effects. The only negative about this movie, in my opinion, was the slow start, by which I mean it took a fairly long time for the plot to begin moving forward and the beginning was therefore tedious. I very nearly stopped watching in the beginning but I was very glad I didn't. I would recommend staying with this film, even if you begin to feel bored in the beginning as once the plot begins to come into play it has a very ... ...i was exceedingly impressed with the ending, which I will not talk too much about for not wanting to spoil it for those who have not yet watched the film, but it was definitely exceptional and well scripted.
The performance by all of the actors and actresses involved was also very good. The emotions and motives of each character were delivered in such a way that you could almost believe you were watching fact rather than fiction.
Overall, I definitely ...

The story brings the audience to the lavishly decorated prison cell of the Marquis in the Mental Asylum of 'Charenton' in France where he worked on an array of books and volumes, many which he didn't complete and many which have never been published or produced.

Alfie (original 1965)
Review of Alfie DVD by
obsessive
Advantages: a product of its time. highly watchable
Disadvantages: slow in places
...performance is just brilliant.
Alfie is a story of a young cockney limo driver who is out to have a good time. Set in the 1960's, when single people - who perhaps, single men were a lot more relaxed about commitment. Of course, the perspective of the film is definitely a male one, and the women in the film do not share the same relaxed views about commitment, in fact quite the opposite. This film was made in 1965 - two years before the Abortion ... ...abortionists' - and the original 1965 Alfie offers this true raw sense of realism. The re-make whilst being highly watchable and entertaining, just did not have the same effect. In the 1965 version, Alfie's guilt and self -loathing is visible, he truly did want to change his ways in that moment. ...
