A must see!
Advantages: A gripping film which has you glued to your seats Disadvantages: Can be confusing at certain times
The Prestige is film with many genres, there is some adventure, sci-fi qualities and a lot of drama! It is set at the turn of the century where two rival magicians battle it out to create the best illusion. However that is just the underlying story as there are many sub-plots, the rivalry is portrayed magnificently, with Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman (playing Alfred Borden and Robert Angier) battling it out to get one over each other. The conflict ... ...are whacky and the character that Sir Micheal Caine plays is influential and intriguing. It also stars Scarlett Johanson and David Bowie all having a role to play in this gripping movie. I highly recommend it, the film works much like a magic trick in itself and that is the single most reason I urge you to see it. You are left guessing about certain plots till the very end of the film and the themes link amazingly. In my opinion its one of my favourite ...

★TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE STAR ★

★ ♦♦ Little Voice ♦♦ ★
♦♦ Set in a shabby seaside town this rare gem of a film stars Ewan McGregor, Jane Horrocks, Michael Caine and Brenda Blethyn. Directed by Mark Herman And released in 1998.The Genre is Comedy/Drama/Romance ~Taken from the play by Jim Cartwright 'The rise and fall of Little Voice'. Which was written as a vehicle for Jane Horrocks to showcase her amazing ability to impersonate great ... ...Little voice (Jane Horrocks) is the name of the main character, well it's actually Laura, but that fact is only mentioned once by Little Voice herself in a fit of anger to her Mother in the later stages of the film . She appears to be around age twenty though this is never confirmed. Little voice is a painfully shy and quiet girl, rarely leaving the confines of her bedroom, and never leaving the safety of her house. When she does talk, which is rarely, ...

The Cider House does Rule
Advantages: beautifully and delicately written Disadvantages: michael caine's maine accent
..."the cider house rules" for the first time the other night. I must say that my early and initial reactions to the film were "why is Michael Caine not a cockney? He sounds silly" and "surely they could have gotten someone else other than Peter Parker to play Homer?". These fairly plausible questions and thoughts were soon extinguished and deemed pedantoic when i was soon drawn into this delicately steady story of an emotionally immune orphan and his ... ...to prevent it from happening. The story tells of one child, named Homer, who didn't have much luck as an orphan; his first foster parents didn't know how to cope with such an unusually quiet baby whilst his second batch of foster parents beat him. In the end, Dr Larch took it upon himself to keep him at the orphanage and to make him "useful", as he puts it - he trains him to be a doctor. Years go by and baby Homer becomes a youthful pre-spiderman ...

Alfie (original 1965)
Advantages: a product of its time. highly watchable Disadvantages: slow in places
...performance is just brilliant.
Alfie is a story of a young cockney limo driver who is out to have a good time. Set in the 1960's, when single people - who perhaps, single men were a lot more relaxed about commitment. Of course, the perspective of the film is definitely a male one, and the women in the film do not share the same relaxed views about commitment, in fact quite the opposite. This film was made in 1965 - two years before the Abortion ... ...abortionists' - and the original 1965 Alfie offers this true raw sense of realism. The re-make whilst being highly watchable and entertaining, just did not have the same effect. In the 1965 version, Alfie's guilt and self -loathing is visible, he truly did want to change his ways in that moment. ...
