Advantages: A beautiful film of a true story.

...between sanity and madness, lies a very fine line, and the main protagonist shows us with great clarity just how fine a line this can be. Genius in one form or another can tip the scale between the two. The mind is a mysterious, and delicate object, as I myself found when studying for my degree. You can only push yourself so far before something gives, and intense commitment to one subject can all too easily result in complete mental breakdown, and ... Read review

I'm just an engineer! Let me go!!
Review of Proof Of Life (Wide Screen) by pmcds

Advantages: Great acting and directing
Disadvantages: Imbalance at times. Have to be in the right frame of mind

This 2000 kidnap drama from director Taylor Hackford has a very good all round package. It has some marvellous scenery and some mood-setting lighting which has given this film some praise. It combines the talents of Meg Ryan and Russell Crowe in roles we would not normally associate them with. The Plot Alice and Peter Bowman are in South America with Peter an engineer working on a project. Peter is kidnapped by some anti-government guerillas and ...
...who must first ascertain whether Terry is alive or not. The emotional turmoil of such an experience is almost too much for Alice, and the kindness and intensity shown by Thorne leads her to feel very strongly for him, and he in turn finds the feeling mutual. The Cast and Performances Meg Ryan is outstanding as Alice. The acting involved in such an emtional character is performed with great skill and attention, and she is very convincing as Alice. ... Exceptional, beautifully crafted film.
Review of The Cider House Rules DVD by Antnic78

Advantages: Wonderful, heart-warming drama.
Disadvantages: None whatsoever.

...of this film after watching the trailer was one of disinterest. I avoided watching at the cinema which, in hindsight, I later came to regret because when I did finally give the film a chance and watched it on DVD I was amazed and suprised by how brilliant this film is. Seldom do I watch films that are affective on so many levels and can induce a strong emotional response within me. The blend of great performances from a fantastic cast, exceptional ...
...quality and substance. The story is essentially of a coming of age drama, set in the 1940's, that centres around the life of Homer Wells, an orphan who has spent his entire life in a New England orphanage. The story is wonderfully narrated by the orphanage director and doctor Larch who has developed a special bond with Homer and whom he takes under his wing and teaches. Homer leaves the orphange to see the world and embarks on a life altering journey ... Read review

Everyone is haunted by their past
Review of A Beautiful Mind DVD by shister_not

Advantages: Absolutely everything
Disadvantages: Quite sad, can make you question your reality

A Beautiful Mind is film that can be described, simply, as beautiful. A beautiful Mind is based on the novel by Sylvia Nasar of the same title. Both mediums tell us about the life (mainly college onwards) of the great mathematician, John Nash. We are firs introduced to Nash on his first day of Princeton University. From this moment on, the audience sees the majority of the film through John’s eyes. He isn’t the most social character but gosh, he ...

Advantages: Great Story and Deeply informative
Disadvantages: Minor inaccuracies to John Nash's life and work

...thought provoking and also gives a great deal of insight into the mental disorder of schizophrenia and how powerful the mind really is. Plot This story is based on the true story of John Nash, a mathematician who begins hallucinating and imagining people including a friend and roommate from university, called Charles, Charles' niece Marcee, and a Department of Defence agent called William Parcher. After some time, his wife Alicia informs ...
