beautifully crafted, scripted and performed
Advantages: Cast, acting, script, story Disadvantages: Can't think of any
...add to a critique of Casablanca not already said, nor much more original to say in awe and devotion of this classic... But i'm going to say my two pence worth anyway! The plot in it's most basic terms: Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart), runs a bar in Casablanca during World War II. People come to Rick's bar to buy letters of transit to escape to America. One day he is approached by Victor Laszlo (Paul Henreid) who is well renowned as a rebel and his ... ...Rick's true love who left in Paris a number of years ago when the Nazi's invaded. Although devoted to her new husband a renewed love ignites between the two and they must make difficult decisions as to the course of the future. Humphrey Bogart plays his best in my view as does Ingrid Bergman. The script and performances sizzle as does the magnetism between the two. Special mention should go to a sterling, and under-rated performance by Claude Rains ...

"There's Only One Maltese Falcon"
Advantages: Great acting, great dialogue Disadvantages: May not be for those who prefer lots of action
...I wouldn't say I'm the world's greatest fan of Film Noir or even of Humphrey Bogart. I like them, but other genres are higher on my list. When I first watched this, although I had heard of Humphrey Bogart, I had no idea what he looked like. I hadn't seen terribly many black and white films either. One fine day, some years ago, my mom got Turner Classic Movies. I can't remember why I turned it over onto TCM or even if it just happened to be on when ... ...and when I got to the end, I realised I needed to see it from the beginning as it was that good. And when I watched it again from the beginning, I thoroughly enjoyed it and have since watched it several times. The Story Humphrey Bogart plays Sam Spade, a private detective in 1930’s San Francisco. One day a woman walks into his office asking him to take on her case. She says that her sister has got involved with a man and that she wants him ...

A "Special Edition" worthy of the title.
Advantages: A Hollywood classic ! Disadvantages: None.
...Running a bar in Casablanca is Rick, an American who left his home in mysterious circumstances and who has, apparently, spent the intervening years as an adventurer in Europe. His bar, named "Cafe Rick", is the centre of night life in the town, and anyone wanting to make a deal comes there eventually. On this particular night, German SS officers arrive in an attempt to recover stolen transit papers which would enable anyone holding them to escape ... ...Rick (played by Humphrey Bogart' is surprised when the Resistance leader Victor Laszlo (Paul Henreid) arrives at his bar in search of the documents, accompanied by his wife Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) - whom Rick had last seen as the Germans invaded Paris... The film goes on to explore the relationship between Rick and Ilsa, and how Rick (who is in posession of the transit documents) deals with his mixed emotions at seeing Ilsa again.
The supporting cast ...

THE DARK SIDE OF THE NAVY
******************************************************************
As many of you already know, I was in the United States Navy for 8 long years; in all that time, I had never seen a mutiny onboard a ship. However, I surely heard stories that they had happened before, particularly during World War II. I was on two ships during my Navy ... ...of 2005, I reported onboard the U.S.S. Arleigh Burke out of Virginia; shortly after arriving, I met someone in my division who welcomed me onboard and even offered myself a place to stay at his apartment. We went to New Orleans for Mardi Gras shortly afterward, and naturally I decided to go out with this person while out on liberty; I drank very little, though he was practically drowning himself with alcohol. We had to get back to the ship by 0700, ...

Bogie's last stand
Advantages: Makes a good case for the point it is trying to make; Bogie's in it Disadvantages: Slow and a bit dull
...was nothing particularly exciting in the box, but I thought the film, which stars Humphrey Bogart, would be worth a watch. Had I known what the subject matter was, I would probably not have watched it - boxing is not something I particularly enjoy - but by the time I realised what it was about, I was already into the film. Compared to most Bogart films, this was definitely not his best, although it was the last film he was to make before his death. ... ...a number of films, including The Inn of Sixth Happiness, starring Ingrid Bergman, and Peyton Place, starring Lana Turner. The Harder They Fall was released in 1956.
The storyline
Nick Benko hires ex-journalist Eddie Willis (Humphrey Bogart) to act as PR Manager for a boxer Benko has brought over from Argentina called Toro Moreno. Benko has put a lot of money on Moreno and there are various underground organisations also involved in financial backing. ...
