A Sunday evening lesson worth watching
Advantages: A cinematic delight, with a fantastic script Disadvantages: I cannot think of one
...is fair to say that the Shawshank Redemption is by far, one of the most influential and important films of the late 20th Century. Why do I make such a huge statement....well, simply because I have never seen a film that made me laugh, cry, sigh, wince, scream, gasp and lose my faith in humanity...only to gain it back again at the end. I would say that most people who go to buy this film today would know the premis behind the story, a well to do and ... ...of racism, homosexuality, prison brutality, the abuse of power, the abuse of religion and importantly, how the institutions many of us cherish can end up failing people and being abused. The film is gritty, dark and sometimes humourous. It is so many things. It i sthe kind of film that ne needs to sit down to watch late on a sunday evening....but not too late as it will keep you awake thinking about it. Particularly the ending which is magical. My ...

Still here, in memory...
Advantages: Interesting background; great addition of little, subtle touches Disadvantages: None
...history - some histories of the British royal family come with handy genealogy charts, showing the progress of royals through the ages in graphic format. Often, the younger children, the 'also rans' of the royal story, are left off the charts, unless they attained fame some other way, or unless they married well. For those royal children who died in infancy or childhood, history is most unkind - they aren't even in the footnotes or indices. Such ... ...epilepsy, he was (according to the custom of the time) kept out of the public eye. Being rather low on the pecking order, he likely never would have attracted much attention, but with his disability, in a world that did not quite know how to regard those with disabilities, he was indeed an outcast, however royal. The teleplay shows an interplay of the private life of Prince John and his caregivers, particularly the deeply devoted servant and nanny, ...

Rourkes Drift
Advantages: Great lead turn Disadvantages: Wrestling in general.
...come club. He was paying the bongo drums and smoking a cigarette that didn't look like normal ones (could have been menthol!). I said hi and shook his hand, complimenting him on Angel Heart and asked if he still had the stunning Lisa Bonnets number, which, in his drunken state and mock Lord of the Manor English accent, bizarrely produced (which I wasn't brave enough to ring!). He then continued banging the drums with a pleasant smile on his face ... ...until his head plopped on the said bongo and he fell asleep, but still smoking that cigarette. I think it's fair to say Mickey has lived the life. They say you get the face you deserve at 40, a face that was punched fairly heavily in the 90s as he turned his back on Hollywood and went on to be a professional fighter for a spell, and unbeaten in 8 fights no less. Well he is New York Irish American after all, one that wears an IRA tattoo and gave to ...

a surprisingly good film
Advantages: great to learn about the softer side to victoria Disadvantages: none
...old Victoria in my mind. The film stars Emily Blunt as the young Victoria and follows Victoria's early years when she is portrayed as a lighthearted likeable girl who knows her many responsibilities. It shows her endearing romance with Prince Albert (played by Rupert Friend) which is played beautifully particularly when you find out that he dies 20 years into her reign after they had 9 children and that she mourned his death for the rest of her very ... ...film. The film also provides a quick history in the politics and challenges she faced in becoming a monarch and that many of her advisors were only using her for their own benefit. A really surprisingly good film portraying an often hidden side of this monarch. ...

~ In the Ring ~
Advantages: Excellent story, Great acting, Interesting settings, Fab characters Disadvantages: None
~ In the Ring ~ The Wrestler has been released for a while now and this weekend I had a chance to watch it. I have wanted to see this since it was released on DVD but was not too sure if it would be any good. This Friday as my boyfriend was on call we decided to go to blockbuster and rented a few films for the evening. We both had not seen it and thought it looked pretty good. The idea of a film being based around wrestling was a bit of an off put ... ...was younger of the WWF wrestling. I remember sitting watching my favourite ‘The Rock’ and thought that the film could be quite interesting. The plot sounded relatively good and the fact that we have just brought a new tele and PS3 which has surround sound and buy-ray we wanted to test how good it was. The cover is quite simple but effective. It doesn’t give much away and has a sinister picture of Mickey Rourke who plays the man character. You can ...
