Chocolat
Advantages: Excellent acting, unusual Disadvantages: Some may find it very dull
Chocolat was a really bizzare movie, quite simply. The basic plot is as follows; a woman and her young daughter move in to a small, highly religious French town. She opens up a small chocolate shop there, much to the outrage of the church goes as she has decided to do so during Lent. Though people are curious about her and her chocolate, the people are wary of trying any out of fear of what the rest of the town will think. The woman, Vianne, eventually ... ...who is being beaten by her husband. Vianne manages to convince Josephine to leave him, and she runs away to live in Vianne's house and help her make her chocolate. Throughout the movie various other characters find help from Vianne, much to the outrage of the church. What finally tips them over the edge is the arrival of a group of Irish travellers. The church - and therefore the rest of the town - are determined to get rid of the travellers, and ...

Love will tear us apart
Advantages: Touching love story, beautiful desert scenery, well acted Disadvantages: Very sad, jumps around a bit, perhaps a thinking persons film
...then look no further than The English Patient. I bought the English Patient on DVD at Sainsbury's a few weeks ago. I had just finished the book and thought I'd quite like to see what the film was like. I purchased it in a 3 for £30 deal.
The book I read because it's on my Booker Prize winners list that I'm slowly working my way through this year. I have to be honest, although I liked the idea of it, I didn't enjoy it very much and had to force myself ... ...would like to re-read the book just to see how the director Anthony Minghella managed to create such a masterpiece from the same story I found dull on the page.
Overview of the story
***********************
If you have never heard of The English Patient then the following should help. The story is set at the end of the Second World War, in Italy, and for the most part moves between 1944 and up to two years before hand. The main character is a ...

A moving Tale of Love
Advantages: Moving, excellent story, wonderful acting and scenery Disadvantages: may be too long for some
...after writing a review on the film Atonement as I thoroughly enjoyed that film. I did buy this several months ago but never got around to watching it as the length was putting me off. As I had the house to myself last night I decided I would take the plunge and give it a go and I am so pleased that I did. Ralph Fiennes plays the role of a badly burnt pilot who is rescued by the English and given a hospital bed. He has no memory of who he is and how ... ...the task of looking after him. As he and others are being moved to a safer place due to the war one of Hana’s friends is killed by a bomb so Hana makes the decision that she is going to stay in this place and make a home in the deserted house which she has seen. She takes the unknown man with her to make is last few days as comfy as possible for him.
As Hana and her patient are settling into the house he starts to have memories of his life and soon ...

Sex and the City
Advantages: funny, great performance Disadvantages: long
...so many exciting reviews on Sex and the City that I decided I watch it. It is a real chick flick romantic comedy and that evening it was the perfect entertainment for me. The film was written and directed by Michael Patrick King. Actually he was the co-producer of the film as well with Sarah Jessica Parker and Darren Star. Michael Patrick King is an American film director and screenplay writer. Besides Sex and the City he wrote the screenplay of ... ...balance. She and Steve have sex about twice a year and even then she is not so involved. She is hurt and devastated when Steve confesses that he had sex with another woman. Miranda separates immediately from him and sees no chance to forgive him. Charlotte has a happy family since they adopted Lily. She is a beautiful girl. Charlotte soon realises that since they gave up trying to have a baby she is pregnant. Can she carry out the baby? My opinion ...

There's final hits and final hits. What kind is this one to be?
Advantages: One Of The Best Films To Come Out Of The UK. Disadvantages: None!
...I first saw the film Trainspotting after hearing so much controversy about it on television, from reading about it in the newspapers and from everyone talking about it around me at the time. It was all everyone was talking about on it's release in 1996 and of course I just had to see it for myself to see what all the hype was about. Well I went to the pictures to watch this film and was quite shocked by this outrageously, yet brilliant tale of five ... ...ago that my husband purchased Trainspotting to add to our DVD collection as we both really enjoyed watching it over the years at various times on television (in a sick kind of way I guess). He picked it up second-hand for £1 at a car boot sale, so it certainly was a great bargain. This film really will not be suited to everyone though. I think you will either love it like I do, or absolutely hate it. It certainly is worth watching once though just ...
