THE SQUARE ROOT OF INSANITY.
Review of A Beautiful Mind DVD by Morning_Becomes_Electra

Advantages: A beautiful film of a true story.
Disadvantages: Some may find the subject distressing.

A BEAUTIFUL MIND Released in 2001 and starring Russell Crowe. This film falls into the genre Biography/Drama, and is loosely based on the biography of mathematician John Forbes Nash, written by Sylvia Nasar. Directed by Ron Howard, and for which he received an Academy award for Best film of 2001. The film chronicles the life of highly regarded mathematician John Forbes Nash Jr, who throughout his life suffered from paranoid schizophrenia. ...
...between sanity and madness, lies a very fine line, and the main protagonist shows us with great clarity just how fine a line this can be. Genius in one form or another can tip the scale between the two. The mind is a mysterious, and delicate object, as I myself found when studying for my degree. You can only push yourself so far before something gives, and intense commitment to one subject can all too easily result in complete mental breakdown, and ... Read review

What a great series
Review of Our Friends In The North DVD by GF1124

Advantages: Well acted, great story.
Disadvantages: None.

In my humble opinion this series never received the critical acclaim it deserved. With superb acting, particularly from Christopher Eccleston, and a deeply moving and interesting story line, it was one of the best BBC productions for many years. A great cast was assembled and the story was told in a clear and dramatic fashion. I am amazed that it hardly ever gets mentioned these days as I truly believed it to be a masterpiece of it's time. Of course, ... Read review

Incredible and moving
Review of The Hours DVD by marcberryman

Advantages: Fantastic story, direction and soundtrack
Disadvantages: Can be hard to follow if you can't commit for the full 2 hours

...in and I found both the characters, soundtrack and story incredibly compelling. The Oscar nominations were deserved. Although the plot in some respects is straight-forward, three woman at three points in time, it is difficult to fully explain what is to happen and how their three lives become intertwined. That said, it is worth devoting an evening to this and making sure there are no distractions, to fully appreciate the atmosphere created by Stephen ...
...myself afterwards and think about the choices you make in life and how we treat others. I don't mean to be too serious(!) but you need to be opened-minded and committed to this film right to the end to fully enjoy. Despite this glowing review, I recommend renting as opposed to buying though! ... Read review

Everyone is haunted by their past
Review of A Beautiful Mind DVD by shister_not

Advantages: Absolutely everything
Disadvantages: Quite sad, can make you question your reality

A Beautiful Mind is film that can be described, simply, as beautiful. A beautiful Mind is based on the novel by Sylvia Nasar of the same title. Both mediums tell us about the life (mainly college onwards) of the great mathematician, John Nash. We are firs introduced to Nash on his first day of Princeton University. From this moment on, the audience sees the majority of the film through John’s eyes. He isn’t the most social character but gosh, he ...
...human initially manage to form a rapport with is his roommate Charles, who is the opposite of John; loud, humorous, outgoing. Following the outline of a plan to impress some ladies, John established a concept that would later be known as his Equilibrium theory. As a result of this outline, John is given the opportunity to work for Wheeler labs as a code breaker. Due to John’s talent, he is approached by a more secretive individual to find codes hidden ... A Beautiful Mind
Review of A Beautiful Mind DVD by Jammie1000000

Advantages: Great Story and Deeply informative
Disadvantages: Minor inaccuracies to John Nash's life and work

...thought provoking and also gives a great deal of insight into the mental disorder of schizophrenia and how powerful the mind really is. Plot This story is based on the true story of John Nash, a mathematician who begins hallucinating and imagining people including a friend and roommate from university, called Charles, Charles' niece Marcee, and a Department of Defence agent called William Parcher. After some time, his wife Alicia informs ...

Cast The acting in this film is outstading with Russel Crowe (who plays John Nash) putting a lot of effort into the part of this mathematical genius and the viewer really begins to get attached to this character and starts to feel sorry for him. Jennifer Connelly (who plays Nash's wife Alicia) done some wonderful acting in this film. The viewer ... Read review
