Walk The Line
Review of Walk The Line DVD by ellesbelles254

Advantages: Opens up a whole new world of music!!!
Disadvantages: Should have won more oscars!!

To be honest I had very low expectations of this film as it was about someone who I knew very little about and had very little interest in. HOWEVER, this is one of the best films I have seen - the acting is brilliant, and I had to check if they had actually dubbed the voices in the performances (they haven't!) as the singing is fantastic. The love story is romantic without being too sentimental and this film is honestly one of those movies that you ... Read review

Watch it just for Whitaker's performace
Review of The Last King Of Scotland DVD by sherbertwhizzes

Advantages: powerful fast paced story, spellbinding.
Disadvantages: needs to make clear that this is part fact, part fiction

...amazing performance as Idi Amin, the Ugandan dictator who rose to power in the 1970s. James McAvoy plays Nicholas Garrigan, a Scottish doctor who goes to Uganda and becomes Amin's personal doctor. The film uses the doctor to show what kind of man/dictator Amin is, plus all the lavish lifestyle he has become used to, is simply not worth it due to the bloodshed and corruption around him Forest Whitaker plays this larger than life character with such ...
...He was perfect for the role and this could be the role that Whitaker is remembered for. You become addicted to Amin, in the way the doctor does and you too go through the spiral of decadence and moral crisis the doctor does. Extras include commentary by the director (which I still need to listen to), the documentary about Armin and how he is portrayed in the film is quite good. The extras are quite minimal, but not too bad. ... Read review

An emotional rollercoaster
Review of Babel DVD by mackry

Advantages: Gripping throughout
Disadvantages: Noot for everyone's taste, needs time dedicated to it

...every one of them. Babel is also the winner of the oscar for best picture in 2007, and similar in many ways and themes to the 2006 winner, Crash. The name of the film comes from the biblical story of the Tower of Babel - a tower built so that people could get closer to god. Biblical and religious questions are continuously raised throughout the film. Babel certainly isn't for everybody's taste. There are four stories interweaved between different ...
...a car with him! Babel also put me off ever visiting Morrocco, or if you do you wouldn't want to do anything wrong going by the portrayal of police brutality. Don't go to see this if you want something to switch off to. There are no big explosions and all the drama comes from real life situations. What I love about Inarrito's films is that he can inadvertently switch from a moment that truly touches your heart, as happens at the first switch between ... Read review

The emotional Brokeback Mountain
Review of Brokeback Mountain DVD by Louiset123

Advantages: Brilliant actors
Disadvantages: quite long

In my personal opinion i adored this story, it has the late heath ledger in and to be honest it doesn't have the same effect watching it knowing that he isn't around anymore. However, I fully believe that it's a moving story with outstanding characters who fall in love and become lodged into the viewers heart. Feeling, like many others that in the end you were most likely crying, you feel the need to want to buy it on DVD and compare it to the short ... Read review

Take it, feel it and pass it on
Review of The History Boys DVD by MAFARRIMOND

Advantages: Clever and witty script. Wonderful charters portrayed by talented actors.
Disadvantages: A little out dated. A teacher with paedophiliac tendencies!

I was determined to watch The History Boys ever since reading Alan Bennett’s book “Untold Stories” which made several tantalising references to the play / film. The DVD was released in Britain on 5 Mar 2007, so I thought it would be an easy purchase. However, after unsuccessfully scouring through the shelves of many a DVD store, I finally managed to secure a copy through Amazon for £13.98. Just why it was so hard to find, I do not know. The History ...
...number of prestigious awards on the way. It was adapted for film by Bennet and stage director Nicholas Hynter. Not all plays manage to make the transition from the boards to the screen well. The History Boys, however, seems just as at home in the medium of film as it is in the theatre. One of reasons for this is that the entire cast of the stage performance also appears in the film. The shared history of the cast, playwright / scriptwriter and director ... Read review
