Passion Temptation Obsession ... Boredom
Advantages: Scarlett Johansson is hot Disadvantages: It's boring. Bland, unoriginal story
...partiality for Johansson. Kirstymack80 mentioned Match Point whilst tallulahbang warned me against it. Against tallulahbang’s better judgement I watched it and here is my review. So what’s the story? Well, it’s a bland one. Chris Wilton is an ex-professional tennis player who teaches people how to play in some exclusive tennis club in London. Here he runs into Tom Hewett a wealthy young toff. They bond over a mutual love for opera and become good ... ...the Academy seen any soaps? Match Point isn’t the world’s first love triangle story. Chris Wilton is meant to be from Ireland in the film as Jonathon Rhys-Meyers who portrays him actually is but through-out he has this posh English accent and if it weren’t for Tom nicknaming “Irish” occasionally you wouldn’t know. He’s from Cork, I’ve been to Cork and last year I shared a flat with a guy from Cork and no-one there talks like that. As far as acting ...

Woody Allen Changing Tack
Advantages: Well shot, written and acted Disadvantages: Might think it a bit pretentious or depressing
...anyway. However, I always mention Interiors as a film that might just change their minds - for a start, he's not in it. Also, there are no attempts at humour here; this is serious stuff, a raw examination of relationships within a disintegrating family unit. Interiors is often referred to as Bergman-influenced, and having only a sketchy knowledge of his work, I think I can see why people say that. It's very sombre in tone, slow paced, and contains ... ...and composed like paintings. It's dialogue heavy, and some of this dialogue borders on pretentious, but this is usually in keeping with the character. It received 5 Oscar nominations, but failed commercially, relative to his other films at the time.
The Story
Arthur, a lawyer, and Eve, a perfectionist interior designer, have raised three grown up daughters, and remain at the focal point of their family, and Eve in particular. Her shadow across ...

Lewd and Lurid in Barcelona
Advantages: Fab cinematography, great performances from Cruz, Bardam and Rebecca Hall Disadvantages: All a bit lewd and lurid
...very seductive indeed. Vicky (Rebecca Hall), is a sensible young girl, engaged to Doug (Chris Messina), who has an air of practicality about him but at the same time is hazardous. Vicky is a student studying Catalan culture so when she gets an invite to visit Barcelona from her rich friend Judy (Patricia Clarkson) and her spouse, Mark (Kevin Dunn) she jumps at the opportunity as she thinks the visit will help with her M A thesis. Vicky takes along ... ...art, gastronomy and sex. Prudent Vicky rebukes him but Cristina mocks her for her beliefs and accepts. And so the main questions in the film are : Is it better to behave like Vicky, loving one man and believing in marriage or like Cristina who is lustful and just out for excitement and adventure? In Woody Allen's film, both these female characters are doomed. Allen seems to portray women as easy targets, negative, fickle and capable of making mistakes ...

A Midsomer Night's Allen
Advantages: I'm struggling to think of any... Disadvantages: Apalling direction, writing and acting.
Brothers Ian and Terry get themselves into serious financial difficulties. So they turn to their rich Uncle Howard for help. He promises to pay off Terry's gambling debts and bankroll Ian's new property deal in return for a favour. The pair agrees even though the cost of their financial security is another man's life. Killing someone isn't as easy as they thought, even if his death will save a family member from ruin…
There was a time when everyone ... ...shine in one of his sharp Manhattan comedies. How times have changed; as he gets older his tastes appear to be changing for the darker. But that's not necessarily a good thing. His last thriller "Match Point" was a serviceable, but far from original take on the genre and this outing is far less accomplished. Allen said he likes shooting in Britain because the grey skies give good light, but I suspect he's been watching too many soap operas while ...

As I walk through the valley of Coolio's shadow of death
Advantages: Powerful and emotional film Disadvantages: Similarity to other films
...John N Smith's 1995 film Dangerous Minds is no different.
Set in an inner city school, it features an ex-marine (Michelle Pfeiffer) who comes into a school and is determined to help the pupils she is faced with, even if it means breaking the rules. Throughout the film, we see the dangers of teachers often left alone with volatile groups, but also the strong bonds that can be forged between individuals with the right help and guidance.
What the ... ...to break away from the dangerous world outside of it. The characters all around her are convincing as well, and it's the sort of film where you have to concentrate quite hard to start with to work out who is who. Further into the film, the individuals become clearer.
The often dark nature of the film makes it all the more powerful. Strong visuals, that don't often shirk away from the harsh reality the film is portraying, mean that the film's power ...
