BREAK THE CODE OR GO INSANE TRYING
Review of Enigma DVD by
zarniwoop
Advantages: Great plot, good suspense, supreb acting
Disadvantages: plot is a deep but good all the same
...of a machine called the Enigma , hence the name of the book/movie, that encodes the messages differently each and every time. It was thought to be unbreakable by any standards, but once the Allies salvaged an Enigma machine, the race was on to crack the riddle of the Enigma to save the convoys of ships from the undectable U-boats.
The first person to master the Enigma is the mathematician Tom Jericho (dougray Scott), who goes back to Bletchly to ... ...triggered by getting dumped by his girlfriend, the lovely Claire Romilly (Saffron Burrows), who is a very mysterious person in the movie. Tom's the only one who has ever broken one of the codes, and the codebreakers need him back desperately. Later on, the Germans switch their original code, and now he needs to crack it all over again but it isn't as easy as it sounds. He has to do the work that took ten months in four days and failure is not an ...

Biopic of a legend
Review of Chaplin (Wide Screen) by
paulb22
Advantages: Stunning performance by downey jr, great cast,
Disadvantages: Concentrates a little to much on Chaplins private life
...I have been a Charlie Chaplin fan (and a fan of silent comedies in general) since i bought Chaplins masterpiece Modern Times, when i first bought this film, i was wondering how could someone possibly portray Chaplin on screen, but Downey Jr pleasently surprised me.
The story follows Chaplins (Downey Jr) rise to stardom starting of as a stand in singer and dancer when his mother (Geraldine Chaplin) is booed of stage, to his final years in exile in ... ...scene when Sennet doesn't think Chaplin is who he really says he is, and Chaplin is forced to perform his famous drunken man routine, this persuades Sennet that Chaplin is the real deal, also at this point we see another famous scene where Chaplin picks out his famous costume. under the direction of Sennet Chaplin also clashes with Mabel Normand (Tomei). After working with Sennet Chaplin branched out on his own, and decided to direct himself, Chaplin ...

Death as the Route to Life
Review of Ghost Dog - The Way Of The Samurai DVD by
Volta120
Advantages: Offbeat, humorous and thought-provoking
Disadvantages: A little too offbeat for some
...The Basic Plot
Ghost Dog (Forest Whitaker) is an assassin living in Jersey City (although, we're never told that) who holds true to Bushido, the ancient Japanese chivalric code of the Samurai, and is guided in particular by the tenets of Hagakure, a series of commentaries and guidelines that were outlined in the early 18th century. The Samurai is a servant or retainer who pledges his life and sword to a master, and in Ghost Dog's case his ... ...several years before (or so Ghost Dog thinks) and by so doing unwittingly earned the future assassin's loyalty. Between jobs Ghost Dog lives in a shack on the roof of a building with only some carrier pigeons and some books to keep him company. His only human friends are a Haitian ice-cream vendor and chatterbox, Raymond (Isaach de Bankolé), who can only speak French, and a precocious-but-sweet little girl, Pearline (Camille Winbush), with whom Ghost ...

great film
Review of Blood Diamond DVD by
jo_field26
Advantages: great story
Disadvantages: n/a
I watched this film last night on sky and I cannot believe that I have not seen it sooner especially as I have always been a fan of Leonardo DiCaprio and I was not disappointed by this film in the slightest.
This film does require some concentration and at just over two hours it is a long film, but it well worth the watch with a great plot with enormous detail in the film as it based on a real event of Sierra Leone on the 1990's.
Solomon Vandy ... ...family, his son goes to school and loves it, one day on the way home from school the village comes under fire and Solomon hides his son and tries to save the rest of the family, unfortunately he manages to saves his family but he is captured and is a slave for a rebel gang and is forced to mine diamonds. One day he finds a rare giant pink diamond which he manages to hide.
Solomon then meets Danny Archer played by Leonardo DiCaprio who is a South ...

The Truth Hurts
Review of Rendition DVD by
mummy2harry
Advantages: Good story, Witherspoon and Metwally are great
Disadvantages: Gyllenhaal is disappointing, torture scenes are horrid
...on DVD to see it! Rendition was one such film. The adverts on the television looked great and I was keen on seeing it, but didn't round to it in time, so I decided last week to hire it out on my Online rentals service and got around to watching it this week whilst Harry was napping.
Anwar El-Ibrahimi is an Egyptian by birth, but has living in America for 20 years, works as a Chemical Engineer, and is married to an all-American woman, Isabella Fields ... ...subject but such films as Rendition and The Kingdom have taken tentative footsteps in that direction. They have begun to examine terrorism from both points of views, have filmed tough torture scenes for us to watch and have really brought a humanist element to the whole scenario. For me, this was quite a hard watch due to some of the scenes included, but it really made it hit home for me how hard the US strikes when they suspect foul-play, no matter ...
