The King of Fellini Films
Review of Fellini's 8 1/2 DVD by
snag2772
Advantages: autobiographical, symbolic, surreal, heavy, dramatic, italian
Disadvantages: none at all
...film is loosely based on Fellini's own life and fast times in 1950s Rome. Marcello Mastroianni portrays Guido who is desperately trying to get his film finished, but has no idea how to end it. Throughout the film, Fellini uses (and creates) some of cinema history's most amazing images through techniques like flashbacks, slow dissolves and the shadowplay should have won it's own award.
This film also marks a change in the style of film Fellini himself ... ...of his career. Gone are the Neorealistic masterpieces of his younger years "I Vitelloni" "Il Bidone" and "Nights of Cabiria" were all amazing films, but to watch 8 1/2 you wouldn't believe its by the same man. Fellini began heavily visual films after this movie, and went to some extremes with this as well ( see "Satyricon"). This is one of those movies that anyone interested in the true masterworks that changed the face of world cinema should not ...

One of the most important films of all time!!!
Review of The Pianist DVD by
jamiemazza
Advantages: An amzing overview of the nazi persecution
Disadvantages: True to life is quite desturbing
...that shows Nazi persecutions of the Jews from mainly the perspective of a talented Jewish pianist and composer Wladyyslaw Szpilman, it was nominated for 7 Academy Awards including best picture and winner of 3 . This film is very educational and shows every step in which the Nazi's took to eradicate the Jewish people. It starts of with the little things such as Jews having to were stars on there arms and are not aloud in certain places such as the ... ...were placed and then the concentration camps. Wladyyslaw Szpilman manages to escape the from the ghetto but life on the outside is not any better he has to constantly be hid away and need the help of the underground and friends to keep him hidden. It is a powerful film which i think every one should see as it shows the hardship the Jewish race had to go through and shows how they dealt with it.

'Humility is hard on the knees...'
Review of Becket DVD by
frkurt
Advantages: Great film
Disadvantages: Slim on DVD extras
...Canterbury, not far from where Becket was murdered/martyred. Becket became a folk hero, a canonised saint, and the stuff of myth and legend, as useful in politics as in literature – Chaucer’s famous pilgrims telling their Canterbury tales were on their way to the same location as Henry II paid his penance for the death of Becket.
The idea of the separation of church and state is an admittedly modern invention, but even in Becket’s time, the intertwining ... ...up a background rivalry for Becket and Henry II while they are both on the same side (Henry II appointed Thomas Becket as his chancellor, a position not dis-similar to being his first, or prime, minister). When Henry decided to take control of the church by appointing his own man as the Archbishop of Canterbury, Becket then has what some have described as a road-to-Damascus conversion experience – the film follows this interpretation.

...movie. This film is called Women In Love, based on the novel by D.H. Lawrence.
The setting is 1920's England which involves a free spirited artist named Gudrun(Glenda Jackson) and her sister Ursula(Jenne Linden)who make friends with two men named Gerald(Oliver Reed) and Rupert(Alan Bates). The four friends attend a picnic honoring a pair of newlyweds.
The newlyweds suddenly drown in a nearby lake. Gerald and Rupert suddenly decide to participate ... ...out want makes men and women really "tick". This film really explores the sexual relationship of these characters. The cinematography and lighting helped make Reed's and Bates famous nude wrestling match quite exciting in the film.
The film Woen In Love becomes an international hit and gets an Oscar win for Jackson. So if you're going to see Women In Love, I suggest you make sure the kids are asleep and see this film as a couple. ...

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (Special Edition)
Review of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (Special Edition) by
mark1323
Advantages: A classic film, beautifully acted
Disadvantages: A little slow moving at times
...2. "The Making of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," a 48-minute documentary featuring the actors, the moviemakers, and writer Ken Kesey recounting the history of the original novel to its stage and movie adaptations
I found this bonus feature a good addition to the film. I did find that it went on a bit too long though and lost interest. That said though some aspects are fascinating despite it being a little slow. 3. Eight additional scenes
An ... ...they did not include them into the final cut of the film.
Overall I would say it is a very good film and the extras which come with the special edition are worth watching and are great value for money (£5.97 from Amazon). The 133 min film and over an hour of extras are great for first time viewers and original lovers of the film who would like to see the extras. I would definitely recommend this film. ...
