If you see one film in your life...this is it
Advantages: Gritty, dark and realistic.. you feel like you are there Disadvantages: It is one of the few films I wished that could have been longer than three hours
There are some things in life you will always remember and I think this film is one of those things. I went to see it originally in the opening week of its cinematic release. I had heard about this film and was very interested to see it because I have a huge interest in the holocaust and what led to it happening. I knew before I went who some of the actors cast were and I also knew that it was a film lasting for three hours. The film gripped me lice ... ...lit...to it gradually changing into black and white. I was absorbed with the power of the nazis and the futility of existence for the Jews. What this film portrays so well is the need in capitalism for exploitation. The nazis, although intent on killing every jew, still believe that they should get the most out of them before they die. they feed them minimal calories and expect them to work round the clock, you hear them talking about this at different ...

This Zulu would kick Michael Caines arse
Advantages: A masterpiece of a Mini-Series Disadvantages: Nearly 10 hours long and thats without the DVD extras
Shaka Zulu is an epic tale of an unwanted son. Who took a minor South African tribe and forged them into a vast empire, through military conquest and fear.
Filmed on location in South Africa, in 1986, when apartide was still very much in force. The government attempted to stop its production. Fearing that the Zulu nation would feel justifiable pride in Shaka's exploits. However Harmony Gold pushed and pushed. Till it was made.
There were terrible ... ...Lord Bathurst = Christopher Lee
Shaka = Henry Cele
Nandi = Dudu Mkhize
The series is spread over 4 discs, 3 episodes per disc with the 4th disc given over to the 10th part and the DVD extras. Episode 1
The series begins at the end of the Anglo-Zulu wars. With the defeated king of the Zulus, Cetshwayo, meeting Queen Victoria to ask for his Kingdom to be returned to him. The Queen asks him to tell her about Shaka. So we go back in time to the 1820's ...

A Decent Double Pack
Advantages: Great Value, Two Reasonable Films Disadvantages: Both films a bit tedious in parts
...this double pack up for the great price of 5.99 and I enjoyed one film more than the other but both were satisfactory.
The Constant Gardener is a film based on a bestselling novel by John Le Carre. The film is a exciting mix of a romance and a spy thriller. Ralph Fiennes stars as Justin Quayle, a British diplomat who has always gone about his work very quietly, not causing a stir. After his radical wife, Tessa (Rachel Weisz), is killed, he becomes ... ...of a very dangerous conspiracy. The film alternates between flashbacks of Justin and Tessa's relationship and Justin's hunt for the truth, which makes him a target even though he doesn't know who is after him. Bill Nighy plays British official Sir Bernard Pellegrin and Hubert Kounde as Arnold Bluhm, an African doctor who might have been a little too friendly with Tessa. Fiennes and Weisz give strong performances playing characters that will continually ...

"What it feels like to be alive..."
Advantages: Beautiful scenery, casting and costume Disadvantages: None that I can see
Elizabeth Gaskell's novel, 'Wives and Daughters', is a powerful story of love, friendship and family, in which the heroine, Molly Gibson, has to cope with the remarriage of her beloved father to a woman who cares for more status than anything else, and the introduction of her new beautiful stepsister Cynthia.
Against all odds, including Cynthia's instant overshadowing of the gentle Molly, Molly and Cynthia form a bond. However, their relationship ... ...Roger Hamley, the local squire's son. Just as Cynthia seems to be winning, it is revealed that she is not all that she seems...
The BBC dramatisation of the novel is beautiful; from hair and make up to scenery and direction. It boasts fine performances from the likes of Francesca Annis as Mrs Gibson, Michael Gambon as Squire Hamley, Bill Paterson as Mr Gibson, Keeley Hawes as the beautiful but flighty Cynthia - and, of course, Justine Waddell as ...
