Review of The Apu Trilogy DVD by
Rosebud1985
Advantages: Great films
Disadvantages: Disappointing extras, so-so transfer
One of the greatest filmmakers to have ever lived, presents his greatest cinematic achievement; the Apu trilogy directed by Satyajit Ray is a must buy for all fans of film. Now that it's on DVD, there is simply no excuse to not buy it!The trilogy is made up of three feature length movies, each on a separate disc, concerning the life of an Indian villager, called Apu. The first film concerns his childhood in his village, where the boy lives in childhood ... ...is particularly poignant due the tragic ending, casting a shadow over everything you have seen before. There are so many highlights, but my favourite moments of the film are seen between the subtle observations over the competition between various famillies in the village.
In the second film Apu's family moves to the big City- Calcutta, where the father tries to earn more than an occassional pittance he received back in the village as a priest. ...

Quiet Film but hyped on about loads.
Review of Taal (Hindi Language) by
butch82000
Advantages: Music is really good, choreograpy is excellent
Disadvantages: all the actor and actresses are dry, bad cinematography
This film contains the former Miss Universe Aishwarya Rai, this loser bollywood actor Akshay Khanna and an actor who has acted in hundreds of film Anil Kapoor. If you watch a lot of Bollywood films you will be familiar with these actors.
So here goes the story: Aishwarya is a beautiful and innocent village girl and she lives with her cousin having a father herself but no mother. Her father is a great non-profit singer who teaches children to sing, ... ...he's kindda skint. So this big business tycoon comes to this village but his rich son happens to see the beautiful village girl dancing and singing in the rain and falls head over heels for her. So both fall in love but he has to go back to the city and promises to come back and get her. One day her father finds the necklace he gave her and so finds out she's going out with him. So the father takes his daughter to the city to take about marriage ...

Review of There Will Be Blood DVD by
l-m-n-o-p
Advantages: Fantastic performances, characters, soundtrack, photography...
Disadvantages: Story meanders a lot; at 158 minutes long, it will bore many
...is what, for me, makes There Will Be Blood so great. Whilst the finale is certainly unexpected, not entirely convincing and defies most of the rules of modern cinema, I loved it. As the grotesque Plainview bellowed "I'm finished!", everyone in the audience simultaneously held their breath in a shocked silence.
There Will Be Blood is one of the most ambitious, beautiful and unpredictable films of the new millennium. It's also incredibly divisive. ... ...is generally the case) or you will find it hammy. The shrieking, atonal score will haunt or annoy you. As for the ending, well, it either will blow your mind and go down as one of the best climaxes in the history of cinema, or leave you shaking your head in disbelief that the director could do something so ridiculous after the excellent preceding two hours of the film. Either way, you have to admire Anderson's audacity. ...

PS Its Brilliant!
Review of P.S. I Love You DVD by
DeniseKelly40
Advantages: Great storyline
Disadvantages: May not be your type of film
...different and each ends with P.S. I love you. It is quite a romantic film, which could make you cry, but is light hearted all at the same time. Gerry has Holly doing lots of different things from singing to sending her to a trip to Ireland. By the time his letter stop Holly is stronger and is ready to move on as she has accepted what has happened and that he has died. Throughout the film you find out how Holly and Gerry met, about their relationship ... ...You feel like you can relate to them.
Hilary Swank is the main character in this film. She is Holly and I think she plays the part very well. She shows Holly's emoticons well. Gerry is played by Gerard Butler who also puts on a good performance as the loveable Gerry. The only problem is his Irish accent wasn't good at all. Being Irish myself I struggled to work out why he was speaking so funny (I thought he had a lisp). Also I never would have figured ...

What's on your Bucket List?
Review of The Bucket List DVD by
bonsi6337
Advantages: Deals with issues compassionately
Disadvantages: You will need tissues handy
...that I wanted to see the film, and the trailers looked good. Hubby was a bit undecided but agreed that he would accompany me to the cinema. I think that secretly he wanted to see the film but just did not want to admit the fact!
So off we toddled to the cinema, paid our money and sat down. I was excited to see what these two legends would come up with as they are both legends in their own right and for them to team up now; well lets just say that ... ...who he annoys. Chambers, on the other hand, is a mechanic, working class and a bit of a history expert.
They find out that they do have something in common - they are both dying. Cole is hospitalised in one of the hospitals he owns and finds that his own rule of two people to a room, no exceptions, has come back to bite him in the behind. Chambers is the other occupant of the room.
Slowly the two men get to know each other, and become friends. ...
