Review of There Will Be Blood DVD by
l-m-n-o-p
Advantages: Fantastic performances, characters, soundtrack, photography...
Disadvantages: Story meanders a lot; at 158 minutes long, it will bore many
...is what, for me, makes There Will Be Blood so great. Whilst the finale is certainly unexpected, not entirely convincing and defies most of the rules of modern cinema, I loved it. As the grotesque Plainview bellowed "I'm finished!", everyone in the audience simultaneously held their breath in a shocked silence.
There Will Be Blood is one of the most ambitious, beautiful and unpredictable films of the new millennium. It's also incredibly divisive. ... ...is generally the case) or you will find it hammy. The shrieking, atonal score will haunt or annoy you. As for the ending, well, it either will blow your mind and go down as one of the best climaxes in the history of cinema, or leave you shaking your head in disbelief that the director could do something so ridiculous after the excellent preceding two hours of the film. Either way, you have to admire Anderson's audacity. ...

PS Its Brilliant!
Review of P.S. I Love You DVD by
DeniseKelly40
Advantages: Great storyline
Disadvantages: May not be your type of film
...different and each ends with P.S. I love you. It is quite a romantic film, which could make you cry, but is light hearted all at the same time. Gerry has Holly doing lots of different things from singing to sending her to a trip to Ireland. By the time his letter stop Holly is stronger and is ready to move on as she has accepted what has happened and that he has died. Throughout the film you find out how Holly and Gerry met, about their relationship ... ...You feel like you can relate to them.
Hilary Swank is the main character in this film. She is Holly and I think she plays the part very well. She shows Holly's emoticons well. Gerry is played by Gerard Butler who also puts on a good performance as the loveable Gerry. The only problem is his Irish accent wasn't good at all. Being Irish myself I struggled to work out why he was speaking so funny (I thought he had a lisp). Also I never would have figured ...

What's on your Bucket List?
Review of The Bucket List DVD by
bonsi6337
Advantages: Deals with issues compassionately
Disadvantages: You will need tissues handy
...that I wanted to see the film, and the trailers looked good. Hubby was a bit undecided but agreed that he would accompany me to the cinema. I think that secretly he wanted to see the film but just did not want to admit the fact!
So off we toddled to the cinema, paid our money and sat down. I was excited to see what these two legends would come up with as they are both legends in their own right and for them to team up now; well lets just say that ... ...who he annoys. Chambers, on the other hand, is a mechanic, working class and a bit of a history expert.
They find out that they do have something in common - they are both dying. Cole is hospitalised in one of the hospitals he owns and finds that his own rule of two people to a room, no exceptions, has come back to bite him in the behind. Chambers is the other occupant of the room.
Slowly the two men get to know each other, and become friends. ...

A TANGLED WEB OF NOTHINGNESS
Review of Lantana DVD by
Morning_Becomes_Electra
Advantages: None really
Disadvantages: A very poor film not worth its rental price.
...and Directed by Ray Lawrence. Lantana is an Australian film which is based on the play 'Speaking In Tongues' by Andrew Bovell. Starring Barbara Hershey, Anthony LaPaglia, Rachael Blake, Kerry Armstrong, Manu Bennett, Melissa Martinez, Nicholas Cooper, and Marc Dwyer. - Genre: Drama/Mystery - Running Time: 121 Minutes - BBFC Rating: 15 -
I was really looking forward to watching this film. The reviews that I had read, praised it and the story sounded ... ...twisted undergrowth of an Australian Lantana bush. She is wearing one shoe. The music is creepy and very atmospheric and the camera lingers upon this image for quite some time. This image of the bush is also metaphorical for the deeply disturbed and intertwined relationships within this story. This is probably the best part of the film. -
Lantana is an interwoven murder mystery with quite a few cast members thrown into the pot. I would say that ...

Advantages: Good acting, great music, solid drama.
Disadvantages: Strange format... no action.
...L. Whitman)
Francis, the eldest of three brothers from a wealthy family, decides to bring his brothers together on a 'spiritually' awakening trip to India. The brothers, who haven't spoken to each other since their father's death, begin their awkward trip aboard 'The Darjeeling Limited', a train that will carry them across India where their planned agenda will take them to 'spiritually' awakening tourist hotspots. Unfortunately, the brothers, who ... ...obscure father, encounter problems along the way that have much to do with their pent-up hostility towards each other and Francis's pushy nature.
There 'spiritually' awakening trip takes a turn for the worse when the brothers literally come to blows, and they are escorted off the train by the harassed train guard who has had more than enough of their boisterous behaviour, obsessive abuse of over-the-counter pain killers and cough syrup, their reckless ...
