Advantages: Robert. Robert, HUBBA HUBBA Robert Disadvantages: Sorry, none...
...will put my hands in the air and admit that I am fickle and would enjoy this film even if the story were dire and torturous. I simply defy any woman to watch this 114 minute film, and more specifically watch and ogle Hubbell Gardner (a young Robert Redford. Swoon - God certainly outdid himself with this one) and not just love this movie because, well – we’re women and this is one of the perks! However, the movie itself was surprisingly good, or no, ... ...of Africa and MANY more). The movie was made in 1973 (though is set in 30’s to 50’s), and tells the story of the rocky relationship between conservative writer Hubbell Gardner (Hubba Hubba Redford) and Katie Morosky, K K K K Kikki (Streisand) an intense (this may be an understatement) political activist. They go to the same college. He, of course, is popular, an intelligent ‘jock’ but sensitive too and she is on the opposite spectrum, not too popular ...

Papillon
Advantages: Really drags you in to the emotion of it all Disadvantages: Some may be put off by the lack of dialogue
...premise of the film surrounds Papillon (Steve McQueen) and his imprisonment on the infamous Devil's Island. He makes friends with Dega (Dustin Hoffman) as he ceaselessly plots means of escape. Despite several failed escape attempts, Papillon refuses to have his spirit broken by his ruthless and humiliating captors. If you are after a film with sparkling dialogue, you will want to give this a miss as there are long periods where not a word is spoken. ... ...than make up for it. Usually after reading a book, the film adaptation is extremely disappointing, but thankfully in this case, the film more than lives up to its billing. Overall, I really enjoyed this film and would heartily recommend it as, despite it's length, the time will fly by as you are brilliantly drawn into the struggles and yearning for freedom of Papillon. ...

The little men in Little Italy
Advantages: Warm and realistic, as well as having one of De Niro's best performances Disadvantages: Some might not like the lack of a solid plot
Mean Streets (1973) was the first major project that Martin Scorsese both wrote and directed for widespread distribution. As with his student films, he tried to recreate the familiar sights, sounds and colourful personalities of New York's Little Italy, the neighbourhood Scorsese grew up in. It's a film full of the youthful exuberance of a young director given a chance to prove himself, and while it lacks the polished, neat storytelling of later ... ...Admittedly, I came to Mean Streets thinking it would be a gangster movie, in the vein of Scorsese's most enduring 90s films such as Goodfellas and Casino, all top mafia gansters dodging bullets and trying to move up in the company - involving and often shocking motion pictures, but focusing on characters who need to exaggerate themselves in order to survive. I was surprised to find that at the heart of Mean Streets is its flawed and very human characters, ...

Swept Away-if there is anything to sweep
Advantages: Madonna looking great & trying hard Disadvantages: Madonna acting fairly good
Here, you have nudity, cheap eroticism and everything else…but hay you also have Madonna and her husband Guy as director of the piece. Someone said: "Watching Madonna is like watching the fat Elvis perform." Maybe Madonna wants to be a movie stars not a movie actress, so her money and reality gets away, interfering on some strange level. Whatever you may think of Madonna, as an actress, it's impossible not to admire her work and such an effort ... ...being a movie star. After all, career of a movie star or a pop icon is a hard work. Only ignorant people don’t know how to appreciate effort and hard work. Every couple of years, she wins a game, as a music super star and gives it one more college to try...But hay, is there anyone out there, who would be suspicious with Madonna’s intelligence? I don’t think so. However, it must be hard for her because, no matter of all the embarrassments, ...

Gould strikes gold
Advantages: A radical and thoughtful re-imaging of the 40s detective Disadvantages: A flim that demands attention in order to be enjoyed
...Altman who also made M*A*S*H, The Player and Short Cuts amongst other films. Altman is not an action director, preferring verbal sparring to physical jousting and I'd recommend that anyone sitting down to watch this film be in the mood to pay attention and listen carefully - it's not popcorn entertainment and that isn't a criticism.
The Long Goodbye is based on a Raymond Chandler book of the same name and stars Chandler's most famous creation, Philip ... ...of whom projected variations on the same theme of a smart, tough and handsome 1940s detective but no one comes close to portraying the character the way that Elliott Gould does. Marlowe has undergone a radical re-imaging and emerged as a mumbling slob in the 70s. This caused outrage among many Chandler fans upon the film's release but Altman defended his vision, claiming that he had tried to imagine the character as having 40s sensibilities transported ...
