A Sizzling Blockbuster you just HAVE to see!
Advantages: Great production and direction shown off well in this widescreen version Disadvantages: none!
...must see. The story of Cleopatra is a great one, and this film really delivers on a great script. The chemistry sizzles between Taylor as Cleopatra and Burton as Mark Antony and there are great supporting performances by Rex Harrison as Caesar, Martin Landau, Roddy McDowell, George Cole, Francesca Annis and Michael Hordern, to name but a few. THe most expensive film ever made, at the time, I simply adore every indulgent minute of it. This particular ... ...version with an even longer director's cut, but this is quite long enough, thank you!)
If you've never seen this film then I strongly recommend it. This version has a few rather dated extras but nothing worth bothering with. This DVD is worth buying though as the film is such a great visual trat having it on a great big FST on widescreen is just what it deserves! ...

Hitchcock It Ain't But It Sure Is Fun
Advantages: Great script, direction, performances Disadvantages: None really. Some may find the plot hard to follow but it's fairly straight forward
Charade was made in 1963 and directed by Stanley Donen of Singin' In The Rain and On The Town fame. This however, is not a musical but an entertaining Hitchcock-esque film starring Audrey Hepburn as Reggie Lampert, a recent widow due to the sudden death of her husband, and Cary Grant as Peter Joshua, a kindly gentleman she meets at a skiing resort who helps her come to terms with the death of her husband. She finds out from friendly agent Bartholomew ... ...some business unfinished (to the tune of a stolen and as yet unfound $250,000) and a number of men (led by James Coburn) want some answers and come after Reggie for them. This film has so many twists and turns I won't begin to get into them now as it will be long winded and confusing, and the reveals are half the fun of the movie. I found this film to be great entertainment. It's not as weighty as Hitchock whom clearly has inspired this, but is alot ...

Seminal French film with Brigitte Bardot
Advantages: An impressive, expansive film which breaks with tradition Disadvantages: could frustrate those who want a traditional story
For fans of Brigitte Bardot, this film is a must-see, as she is frequently the camera's focus of attention. The camera roves over her naked body and lingers on her beautiful face - as befits the international star she already was in 1963 when this film was made. In fact it's almost a parody of the 'star-image' as used in films. One thing you quickly realise about this film is that it is always playing with cinematic imagery, always defying expectations ... ...he by no means capitulates to the Hollywood norm. This is far from being a mainstream film, in fact it is practically a comment on the constraints imposed on films by budgeting/production demands. One of the main parts of the narrative is the dynamic between the German director Fritz Lang (who plays himself) and the tyrannical American producer Jerry Prokosch (Jack Palance) who wants more sex and selling points in the film of Homer's Odysee they ...

Sex and the City
Advantages: funny, great performance Disadvantages: long
...so many exciting reviews on Sex and the City that I decided I watch it. It is a real chick flick romantic comedy and that evening it was the perfect entertainment for me. The film was written and directed by Michael Patrick King. Actually he was the co-producer of the film as well with Sarah Jessica Parker and Darren Star. Michael Patrick King is an American film director and screenplay writer. Besides Sex and the City he wrote the screenplay of ... ...balance. She and Steve have sex about twice a year and even then she is not so involved. She is hurt and devastated when Steve confesses that he had sex with another woman. Miranda separates immediately from him and sees no chance to forgive him. Charlotte has a happy family since they adopted Lily. She is a beautiful girl. Charlotte soon realises that since they gave up trying to have a baby she is pregnant. Can she carry out the baby? My opinion ...

There's final hits and final hits. What kind is this one to be?
Advantages: One Of The Best Films To Come Out Of The UK. Disadvantages: None!
...I first saw the film Trainspotting after hearing so much controversy about it on television, from reading about it in the newspapers and from everyone talking about it around me at the time. It was all everyone was talking about on it's release in 1996 and of course I just had to see it for myself to see what all the hype was about. Well I went to the pictures to watch this film and was quite shocked by this outrageously, yet brilliant tale of five ... ...ago that my husband purchased Trainspotting to add to our DVD collection as we both really enjoyed watching it over the years at various times on television (in a sick kind of way I guess). He picked it up second-hand for £1 at a car boot sale, so it certainly was a great bargain. This film really will not be suited to everyone though. I think you will either love it like I do, or absolutely hate it. It certainly is worth watching once though just ...
