The overall effect is so poor that it looks more like it was made in 1918 than 1938 - when you consider that some really quality films that still look good now such as 'My Man Godfrey' (1936) and 'If I Had a Million' (1932) were made before this film, the contrast is pretty stark. He's great with chickens and gangsters

Advantages: Thoroughly entertaining, well-acted and scripted, and James Cagney
