Memories of Brokeback Mountain
Review of Brokeback Mountain DVD by
dbarcl10
Advantages: Shows the bond between 2 men
Disadvantages: Slow beginning
...nominated for 8 Academy Awards, Brokeback Mountain only won 3 Academy Awards. Jack and Ennis are based in a mountain range over the summer months, looking after sheep. Once the sun goes down, the heat goes, leaving them cold. One night, they start sharing a tent to keep warm, and that's when emotions start to form. Their boss finds out what's happening on Brokeback Mountain and orders the sheep down, effectively ending their relationship. But over ... ...mild porn.
That said, Brokeback Mountain wasn't a film that is known for its realism - I mean, one spit and you're in? (think about it guys) I don't think so darling.
The film was controversial not only because of the media's perception of this as a gay film, but by some people pointing out that the characters were actually bisexual rather than gay, as they were both married. It's a thought provoking film in that it makes you realise, whether you're ...

Love will tear us apart
Review of The English Patient (Special Edition) by
Shoka
Advantages: Touching love story, beautiful desert scenery, well acted
Disadvantages: Very sad, jumps around a bit, perhaps a thinking persons film
...then look no further than The English Patient. I bought the English Patient on DVD at Sainsbury's a few weeks ago. I had just finished the book and thought I'd quite like to see what the film was like. I purchased it in a 3 for £30 deal.
The book I read because it's on my Booker Prize winners list that I'm slowly working my way through this year. I have to be honest, although I liked the idea of it, I didn't enjoy it very much and had to force myself ... ...would like to re-read the book just to see how the director Anthony Minghella managed to create such a masterpiece from the same story I found dull on the page.
Overview of the story
***********************
If you have never heard of The English Patient then the following should help. The story is set at the end of the Second World War, in Italy, and for the most part moves between 1944 and up to two years before hand. The main character is a ...

Amins rise to power
Review of The Last King Of Scotland DVD by
carter845
Advantages: Truly gripping
Disadvantages: Based on a fictional character
...and popular politician who at the blink of an eye becomes a psychotic and bloodthirsty murderer who will defy anyone who tries to stand in his way. James McAvoy is equally as impressive as Amins personal doctor whose character is fictional yet very believable. This movie was released when a lot about life in Africa came out (Hotel Rwanda, The Constant Gardener) and is by far the best and most gripping with two superb performances from its leading ...

Babel
Review of Babel DVD by
jacoyeg
Advantages: Great story, directing and musical score.
Disadvantages: Needs 100% attention
Story was very well written, ties together beautifully. The music is powerful and the directing is magnificent. Stunning, very well made. It may not be very fast paced at some parts but some of the stories are tense enough to keep it moving on well. Studies the difficulties of language and cultural barriers very well. All characters are very interesting. Stunningly beautiful in a painful way, some of the cinematography is breathtaking. Would not ... ...it needs allot of concentration and is not always an easy watch at some parts, it deals with a few heavy issues. The directing and music enhance the amazing script from a good film to a great film. I hold this film highly. Would recommend a a good quality wide screen and sound system as the sound and visuals are stunning. ...
