Volvere a ver esta pelicula en el futuro :)
Review of Volver DVD by charlsayslol

Advantages: amazing film, another almodovar classic
Disadvantages: none in particular, unless you prefer english language films

Volver (To Return) is the most recent film by Spain’s most well known and successful film director, Pedro Almodovar. I am a fan of almost all of Almodovar’s films, and even decided to do my A Level Spanish oral presentation on his life and films. I did my exam about him today, and so I decided that now would be a good time to review my favourite of his many films. *Synopsis* Volver is the story of the women in a small family living in Spain in ...
...convincingly. *My opinion* Volver is my favourite film by Almodovar, although I love the majority of his work. I just thought that the storyline of this film was fantastic, and that the actors really helped to make the film as amazing as it could be. The fact that this is the only one of his films that I have seen on the big screen in a cinema probably helped, as this added to the atmosphere the first time I saw it. If you have seen any others ... Read review

Babbling on...
Review of Babel DVD by afy9mab

Advantages: Somre very strong performances.
Disadvantages: Some wishy-washy characterisation and lack of plot.

When an American tourist is accidentally shot in the Moroccan desert, the events have repercussions around the world. The holidaying couple struggle to survive in a country where few speak their language. A Mexican nanny is forced to take two American children over the border illegally. Two young boys get involved in a crime they didn’t intend to commit and a deaf teenage Japanese rebel discovers her father is being sought by the Tokyo police. Circumstance ...
...of loss and isolation. Separated by culture, language and a lack of understanding of their surroundings and themselves, they all struggle to connect with the world. Like Robert Altman before him, director Alejandro González Ińárritu is fixated on the multi-strand narrative format that links several stories through a single event. It can be a very effective storytelling tool but it can fall flat on its face. This particular example is moderately ... Read review

Ray is on my mind
Review of Ray DVD by christianfilmcritic

Advantages: Brilliant music
Disadvantages: None

...story of legendary soul singer Ray Charles (Jamie Foxx), famed for songs such as "Georgia". Born into poor circumstances, Ray lost his sight at the age of 7 after the death of his brother. With the help of his mother, Ray learnt how to survive in the world, and instilled into him the determination that would guide him through his life. As time moves on, Ray uses all his skills and determination to over come both racism and prejudices against the ...
...really ever seen pictures of Ray Charles as an older man, such as his appearance in "The Blues Brothers". With this in mind, I did a bit of research on what Ray Charles was like in his younger days. Thankfully I did, because I was amazed at not only the similarity in looks between Ray Charles and Jamie Foxx but the way Foxx took on the whole persona of Charles. Prior to this I had only seen Foxx in "Any Given Sunday" and was note overly impressed ... Read review

A Touching and Remarkable piece of history
Review of Schindler's List DVD by Funkychick215

Advantages: exellent special effects and great cinematography
Disadvantages: Sobering to realise its all based on true events

It's hard to believe that this film is based on so much truth. It is a truly chilling story but i believe it is important to be told. Make sure you watch the extra features at the end, you are sure to be surprised how little the film is exaggerating the real story. It is very artistically made, so for those who really enjoy good cinema this film is exellent. The special effects make the film even more realistic. Despite the sombre story line, the ...
...Most people are likely to know some background about the holocaust before watching this film and sop you may not expect to be surprised. I personally studied the holocaust quite intensively in high school and i was still surprised by what i saw!! It really is remarkable and worth owning as an all time classic film. ... Read review

Sometimes you win sometimes you loose
Review of Match Point DVD by MI9to5

Advantages: Can be tense, shocking and unpredictable
Disadvantages: Appears to be a typical chick-flick on the surface

My reason for purchasing Match Point in the first instance was quite simple, Jonathon Rhys Myers was in it and for me that was as good an excuse as any to buy a new film. I'm so glad however that I did buy this film because not only does Rhys Myers play a fantastic part and look extremely handsome for the main but the film has become a firm favourite of mine. Chris (Jonathon Rhys Meyers) is an Irish tennis coach who after coaching Tom, the son of ...
..."There are moments in a match when the ball hits the top of the net and for a split second it can go either forward or fall back. With a little luck it goes forward and you win. Or maybe it doesn't and you lose." This line sums up the double-edged sword that the film is, as on more than one occasion the ball may go forward and Chris may uphold the life he has dreamed of but just as easily it may fall backwards and the world he has come to love may ...
