All Beginning but no middle and little end
Review of Liam (Wide Screen) by
Ork1927
Advantages: Good acting, watchable
Disadvantages: Ending out of nowhere
...well off Jewish family while Liam prepares for his first communion, being taught how to avoid hell at his local school.
The film is very similar to other period family films (such as Anglea's Ashes) as it focusses on the family, primarily through the eyes of a small boy. Liam does avoid the voice over from the grown up version of the child as the main character speaks very little on account of his stutter.
The film follows the family through hardships ... ...while trying to find work while Liam's sister finds herself covering for her female boss who is having an affair with Spider from Coronation Street.
The film carries on at a leisurely pace, trying to highlight the hypocrisy of the church and the beginning of feelings of resentment of the Jewish and Irish families in Liverpool who are well off or working. The British Facist Party are introduced and it looks as if the film will explore fascism in ...

Review of Girlfight (Wide Screen) by
monumental
Advantages: originality
Disadvantages: lack of special features
The name Girlfight does not do justice for the content of this film, as it is a depiction of an outsider, finding her feet in the tough Bronx. Her struggle spreads from school, to her home and to the streets. It’s a refreshing experience to watch, and very moving in places too. Please ignore anyone who will ell you this is the original Million Dollar Baby, because it is not, I don’t even consider Million Dollar Baby as a boxing film. And please ignore ... ...the street.
STORY
Girlfight follows Diana(Michelle Rodriguez), a young girl growing up in the Bronx an unable to find herself. At home she has to endure a drunk abusive father, and a brother in which she finds herself always having to stick up for. At school Diana does not fit into any of the usual type groups of friends, and always getting into fights. Diana doesn’t really discover who she is until she discovers her brothers boxing gym, and this ...

Youre not from around here, are you !
Review of Last Resort DVD by
malenkylitso
Advantages: great acting & story
Disadvantages: none
The is film set in a rundown seaside town in England and follows the story of Tanya (Dina Korzun) and her son Artiom (Artiom Strelnikov), who come over from Russia to be with her fiancee.
He doesn't turn up so they are taken to Stonehaven (filmed in Margate) which is a refugee centre to wait for their application for residency to be processed. They meet amusment arcade manager Alfie (Paddy Considine) who takes their plight to heart and offers shelter ... ...story with some good social comment on the asylum problem. The lack of compasion with which the seekers are treat is heart breaking and is told well.
The forboding grey of the washed out buildings and depressing seafront make a strangely beautiful scape for this story. Some great acting throughout, is well paced and very moving. The sadness that runs through the film is broken up well glimmers of hope so never gets too depressing
The extra's are ...

Review of Life On Mars - Series 2 - Complete (Box Set) by
MI9to5
Advantages: Fantastic Show
Disadvantages: NONE
Life on Mars was definitely my favourite TV programme and probably still is. Series one was fantastic and series two simply picked up from where it left off ********NB: I apologise now if you feel I have included too many quotes, I just wanted to highlight how good I feel the show is.********
Life on Mars tells the story of Sam Tyler, a police officer, who after being hit by a car woke up in 1973. He constantly questions his own sanity and at the ... ...the title track David Bowie's Life On Mars. All of the songs are authentic to the period and combined with the costumes, hairstyles, buildings and mannerisms of the show the feeling that you are in the 1970's is always prominent (and I wasn't even born then).
The show itself is very well written and filmed. It is comical and satirical but also manages to hit the nail on the head on more than one occasion. The best thing however about this comedy ...

Willie Beamen - what a player!!!
Review of Any Given Sunday (Special Director's Cut) (Wide Screen) by
beanie8844
Advantages: good plot, great acting, fab ending
Disadvantages: not enough on field action, have to endure Willies vommiting
...neck!"
Conclusion
I think Any Given Sunday is won of the all-time greatest sports movies. Not only does it have a genuinely great cast and the acting is fantastic, but it explores some sides of American Football that not many people would know about, like illegal drug taking to enhance performance, physiotherapists who push players to play when perhaps they shouldn't because the pressure to win is so great and the ego's of some players. As I said ... ...gives is very memorable. Well worth purchasing on DVD. Director - Oliver Stone (Platoon, 1986, Natural Born Killers 1994 & World Trade Center 2006)
Producers - Richard Donner (The Goonies 1985, Conspiracy Theory 1997, )& Oliver Stone
Released - December 22nd 1999 (DVD 1st September 2000)
Runtime - 150 minutes
Thanks for reading. (also posted on Dooyoo under the same name) ...
