An Account of Bravery
Review of World Trade Center DVD by
doraexplorer1
Advantages: Interesting real life account of the day
Disadvantages: A bit too much deep and meaniful conversations
This films starts with Nicholas Cage (John McLoughlin) and Will Jimeno (Michael Pena) preparing to start a normal day as Port Authority Police Officers. However as the events of the day unfold they are hurled into the uncertainty of a rescue operation. While heading into the disaster area the building collapses on top of them and they are trapped. Meanwhile their families are watching the events unfold on the television and fear greatly for their ... ...by the emergency services along the way. Whilst trapped together under the rubble the rather quiet and grumpy John McLoughlin and Will Jimeno are forced to encourage each other to stay alive. In doing so they have many deep conversations about their lives (complete with flashbacks) and form a close bond. They are finally rescued and reunited with their relieved families. A rather enjoyable and uplifting story. ...

Rockford Files
Review of The Rockford Files - Series 2 (Box Set) by
sjp1966
Advantages: good stories, good memories
Disadvantages: may be dated for some
Review
The 70s was a hotbed of TV detective shows; we had Starsky and Hutch, Hart to Hart, Kojak, Charlies Angels and Columbo amongst others. In fact it is a surprise that there were enough cases to go around for all of them. On top of that is the sudden realisation that even though I was a young boy in the 70's I remember watching every single one of these shows which means that my entire youth was spent watching detective shows. Now there's ... ...to that aforementioned youth when the theme tune filtered through my speakers, and the main title sequence came up on screen. I remembered it all as if it were yesterday, then whilst drifting back to when I was nine years old I sat and watched, but did I enjoy?
For those that don't know, or can't remember Jim Rockford (James Garner) is a private investigator who lives and works from his beach trailer in LA. A likeable ex-con Rockford often skirts ...

Nightmarish visions..
Review of Requiem For A Dream DVD by
shanediablo
Advantages: Uncompromising, Enthralling, Great performances
Disadvantages: Uncomfortable viewing at times
...from her. She in turn promptly goes to buy it back, thus indirectly feeding and maintaining his addiction.
Requiem For A Dream is a terrific and traumatic vision that perceptively captures the subconscious minds of people whose dreams are eating away at them.

bad idea
Review of World Trade Center DVD by
atytyut2434
Advantages: good commetary
Disadvantages: poor choice of subject
I don't think Hollywood should be making any movies about 9/11. Not this, not United 93. They would have been better served donating the money raised to finance this film to the families of those who lost people in the twin towers. I am amazed they only got 1 big Hollywood name to try and hang this whole film on. yes, Nicolas Cage sells tickets but not all on his own. there should have been at least a few other names. And don't try telling me Maggie ... ...or what else she's been in.
This film really can only be watched in the DVD format with the commentary of the men who were there and the rescuers (which is included along with Oliver Stone's commentary. You will learn some interesting things you may not have previously known but this story was NEVER strong enough to be a movie. TV featurette maybe, movie, no way. Sorry. ...

Feel good movie
Review of The World's Fastest Indian DVD by
atytyut2434
Advantages: great story
Disadvantages: none really
...movie! This a review of the DVD version. Take the wonderful Sir Anthony Hopkins who is a fellow Welshman & we share the same birthday! Have him playing Burt Munro, a man who wants to ride his 1920's Indian Motorcycle faster than 200 mph ot the Bonneville Saltflats. He isn't a young man, in his 70's and his bike is rebuilt and held together with anything he can find. This is the story of his trip to America and across the country in his quest to ride ... ...him like everyone else at the Salt Flats. This is a true story but I would have liked to have known how many things in the film really are true (like the policeman letting him off after speeding in Nevada). My only real gripe with the movie is the accent of the taxi driver who takes Burt to Hollywood, his accent comes and goes which annoyed me a little bit. Watch it with an open mind and be enthralled. ...
