A Beautiful Mind
Review of A Beautiful Mind DVD by Jammie1000000

Advantages: Great Story and Deeply informative
Disadvantages: Minor inaccuracies to John Nash's life and work

...thought provoking and also gives a great deal of insight into the mental disorder of schizophrenia and how powerful the mind really is. Plot This story is based on the true story of John Nash, a mathematician who begins hallucinating and imagining people including a friend and roommate from university, called Charles, Charles' niece Marcee, and a Department of Defence agent called William Parcher. After some time, his wife Alicia informs ...
...real. He is then offered a nobel prize for economics for his extraordinary work into game theory. Cast The acting in this film is outstading with Russel Crowe (who plays John Nash) putting a lot of effort into the part of this mathematical genius and the viewer really begins to get attached to this character and starts to feel sorry for him. Jennifer Connelly (who plays Nash's wife Alicia) done some wonderful acting in this film. The viewer ... Read review

The King of Fellini Films
Review of Fellini's 8 1/2 DVD by snag2772

Advantages: autobiographical, symbolic, surreal, heavy, dramatic, italian
Disadvantages: none at all

...film is loosely based on Fellini's own life and fast times in 1950s Rome. Marcello Mastroianni portrays Guido who is desperately trying to get his film finished, but has no idea how to end it. Throughout the film, Fellini uses (and creates) some of cinema history's most amazing images through techniques like flashbacks, slow dissolves and the shadowplay should have won it's own award. This film also marks a change in the style of film Fellini himself ...
...of his career. Gone are the Neorealistic masterpieces of his younger years "I Vitelloni" "Il Bidone" and "Nights of Cabiria" were all amazing films, but to watch 8 1/2 you wouldn't believe its by the same man. Fellini began heavily visual films after this movie, and went to some extremes with this as well ( see "Satyricon"). This is one of those movies that anyone interested in the true masterworks that changed the face of world cinema should not ... Read review

More Babble than Babel
Review of Babel DVD by lona

Advantages: Good performance from Cate Blanchett
Disadvantages: Subtitles and boring

...like to be entertained. Babel is not one of those films I have to say. I think the director strived to intertwine four stories into one movie but to me it did not gel. First off, the majority of the movie is in sub titles, which did not make the film easy to follow. The movie was complex enough without having to follow subtitles. The four stories are linked in an obscure kind of way and spans four countries. The story starts off in Morocco where ...
...movie was aptly named as Babel as to me it was a load of babble from beginning to end and I can not recommend it, unless you are one of those folk who are deep thinking and reading into political things as it did have a political undertone. Myself, I like to watch movies for the entertainment value and this movie certainly is not one of them. Director ………….Alejandro González Iñárritu Writer…………… Guillermo Arriaga Cast ……………. Review of Gods And Monsters (Wide Screen) by utero

Advantages: great acting, great film, good extras
Disadvantages: none really

God and Monsters is a film with a very small budget but a great script that quite rightly won an oscar for best adapted screenplay in 1998. Sir Ian McKellen plays the legendary hollywood director James Whale who made some of the old universal monster classics such as Frankenstein and The Invisible Man. This film deals with his later years in life when he is somewhat a recluse, he lives his days haunted by images from his past. The only person in ...
...she hires a gardener (Brendan Fraser) an unusual relationship is struck that changes everybodys lives forever. This is one of those films that is a hidden gem. The acting is excellent across the board with McKellen gaining an Oscar nomination for his performance. If you ask me he should have won instead of that italian clown. Redgrave also got a nomination and really changes into a differnt person with some humourous results. Also if you've only ... Read review
