I watched this movie at the cinema feeling a little gloomy, and by the time I left I felt much better! Mike Leigh films are notorious for being gritty and free of frills. This film has his thumbprints all over it, but the lead character is one of happiness, jolliness and hope rather than drug problems, alcoholism or moral decay. Having seen the trailers for this film at the cinema and not being able to go I was very pleased when the DVD came out. Hubby was not looking forward to watching this after my last film choice was so bad but he too was impressed!
