I want to be Josh Lyman
Review of The West Wing - Complete Series 1 (Box Set) by kjane2006

Advantages: Addictive viewing, slick writing, America as you wish it actually was
Disadvantages: Every so often a bit heavy on the cheese

...I have to apologise off the bat though that I don't have the price for you as I borrowed this DVD set from a friend who owns the first 6 series - but I recall seeing individual series in HMV for around £35-£45. The first series consists of 6 discs, 4 with 4 episodes each and 2 with 3 episodes. I always liked the West Wing when I saw it occasionally on tv, but I never liked it as much as I did when I watched the entire first series on DVD over the ...
...you haven't seen it follows the working of the President and his senior staff in the White House. As with any US drama the characters have personal lives as well as work related dramas, the format basically is ER in the White House only with better dialogue and no bloody operating scenes. The President - Jed Bartlet - is played by Martin Sheen. His character is meant to have been an Economics Professor before he got into politics and is portrayed ... Read review

The Game is Afoot
Review of Murder By Decree (Wide Screen) by dadmancat

Advantages: Great blending of fact and fiction, superior cast
Disadvantages: Occasional clumsiness from the director

2001's 'From Hell' was a pretty enjoyable movie that revisited the brutal killing spree of Jack the Ripper, attempting to put a face to the murderer. It took Alan Moore's graphic novels as it's starting point and then rested rather heavily on Stephen Knight's 'Final Solution' theory as to the killer's identity. Convoluted and tenuous, disproven on countless occasions, 'The Final Solution' remains the most exciting and enticing of theories, and made ...
...'The Final Solution' was being used as the basis for an even more imaginative picture. The book was barely 2 years old, and the theory was still selling paperbacks like hotcakes, and then along came 'Murder by Decree'. Directed by Bob Clark, who I wish had something more notable than 'Porkys' in his post 'Decree' resume, and with an impressive cast, 'Decree' had one major difference from 2001's 'From Hell'. Writer John Hopkins, who had worked on ... Read review

Sometimes you win sometimes you loose
Review of Match Point DVD by MI9to5

Advantages: Can be tense, shocking and unpredictable
Disadvantages: Appears to be a typical chick-flick on the surface

My reason for purchasing Match Point in the first instance was quite simple, Jonathon Rhys Myers was in it and for me that was as good an excuse as any to buy a new film. I'm so glad however that I did buy this film because not only does Rhys Myers play a fantastic part and look extremely handsome for the main but the film has become a firm favourite of mine. Chris (Jonathon Rhys Meyers) is an Irish tennis coach who after coaching Tom, the son of ...
..."There are moments in a match when the ball hits the top of the net and for a split second it can go either forward or fall back. With a little luck it goes forward and you win. Or maybe it doesn't and you lose." This line sums up the double-edged sword that the film is, as on more than one occasion the ball may go forward and Chris may uphold the life he has dreamed of but just as easily it may fall backwards and the world he has come to love may ... IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE. ******************************* Produced and Directed by Frank Capra. Starring: Jimmy Stewart as George Bailey. Donna Reed as Mary (Mrs Bailey). A Fantastic film well worth watching
Review of A Beautiful Mind DVD by PeterTruss26

Advantages: Good film rooted in a real life story with good performances by the actors
Disadvantages: None that I can think of

...enjoyed this film. It is a emotional story which has a few twist and turns to keep you on your toes with some action scenes enlivening it. This is as well as a gritty realism from the true story behind the film of John Nash's struggle with mental illness. Lead actor Russel Crowe puts in a convincing and engaging performance as the brilliant but afflicted mathamatician John Nash. All the characters work well with Connelly combining well with Crowe ...
