The Good… The Bad… & The Undecided…
Review of Domino/A Man Apart/A History Of Violence DVD by octavio.teixeira

Advantages: A few good action scenes; If you like violence this is for you...
Disadvantages: If you don't, don't even botter, you'll feel sick...

† What you are about to read is a review on a box set that could easily be described in a simple word: Violence…! But as I spend more than 300 minutes watching it, I think I will tell you a bit more about it… Was it worth it? You will soon find out… † “Domino” (2005) - “There is three kinds of people in the world: the poor, the rich, and everyone in between… My name is Domino Harvey…” (2/5). Tony Scott is the personification of everything we hate ...
...blockbuster concept, when he directed “Top Gun”, back in 1986. But there’s something about him that catches my attention and maybe that’s the reason why one of my favourite “worst movie ever” is “The Last Boy Scout” (1991)… “Domino” is an action thriller freely adapted to the true life of Londoner Domino Harvey, who gave up her career as a model to become a bounty hunter; Domino was the only daughter of Lawrence Harvey (Lithuanian-born actor, mostly ... If The Cap Fits...
Review of The Elephant Man DVD by zyxwv

Advantages: Moving, well acted and directed .
Disadvantages: Better for an edit, slightly too long. Unavoidably sombre.

(Sorry for the flippant title - couldn't resist) INTRODUCTORY DETAILS Direction.. ..David Lynch Genre... ..Drama Rating.. ..PG (fair) Format.. ..Widescreen, Black and White Production.. ..1980 Length.. ..118 minutes 'John Merrick'.. ..John Hurt 'Dr Frederick Treves'.. ..Anthony Hopkins SYNOPSIS With a screenplay adapted from the books by Dr Frederick Treves and Ashley Montague, 'The Elephant Man' takes up the story of John Merrick in his ...
...taken a savage beating at the hands of the showman. So the story is set for the main theme of the film as from here on Merrick is taken under Treves' wing and housed in private lodgings at the hospital where the latter is a respected physician. Lynch's film follows Merrick's life as Treves attempts to help 'the elephant man' both with his medical condition and by introducing him to polite society. Thus a moving story comprised of both joy and sadness ... Read review

It's a Classic!
Review of The Third Man DVD by hbgmobility

Advantages: Orson Wells, Great Music, Great Story
Disadvantages: it ends!

I had heard about the music, the zither music, and was really skeptical that this would work. It does, and it's amazing. It sets, keeps, and moves along the mood of the movie perfectly and is definitely an enhancement to the movie. In fact, the movie is worth watching just to see and hear how the music coordinates with the action. Orson Wells makes a powerful and compelling performance. Actually, everybody in the movie is interesting and turns in ...
...don't want to give away the plot, but be prepared for deep and intense betrayal. Sometimes finding out the truth doesn't set anybody free... The imagery in the movie, the light and shadows, are done beautifully. Everything works together to keep you glued to it to see what will happen next and how everybody will react to what will happen next. Even if you know the plot, watching how all the characters react and interact is a treat. I'm trying to ... Read review

Not any everyday Christmas tale...
Review of The Lion In Winter DVD by frkurt

Advantages: Everything!
Disadvantages: none (save that it ends)

'There'll be pork in the treetops come morning!' Thus shouts Queen Eleanor of Acquitaine to King Henry II, in a shouting match that never ends during the course of the fabulous film. An inventive historical drama recounting the lives of several of medieval Europe's most colourful characters, I can scarce begin to list the number of lines that stand out from the banter. ‘The Lion in Winter’ has long been one of my favourite films. I never tire of ...
...from the film into my own ‘witty banter’ as appropriate. Peter O'Toole and Katherine Hepburn, in performances nearly unequalled by either in other works, provide the main action, while the very young actors Anthony Hopkins and Timothy Dalton help fill out the cast in their debut roles (Nigel Terry, later to play King Arthur in 'Excalibur', also plays one of the king's sons). Done in period costume and set (the King emerging from his castle, not on ... Read review
