Lets just start by saying that I am not into jumpy and scary films at all but looking at the trailers I thought it looked pretty harmless and a few jumpy parts were no problem - it makes the wife happy - I have seen one of these films with her, keeps her quiet and I am in the good books for at least one night ..........
How wrong was I about this film. It starts off with a young boy being taken to an idyllic house and his parents claiming he has been cursed after stealing a necklace from some gypsies. The women inside claims she can help. Well let's just say it doesn't work out as planned and we get the first viewing of the Lamia who will play a very big part in this film. This is followed by the first look at our main character Christine Brown, played by Alison Lohman, a bank worker very eager to make her way up the ladder and is at present trying for the assistant manager position. She is up against newcomer in the company Stu Rubin, played by Reggie Lee,
who from the first ten seconds is so annoying you just want to punch him in the head! We also meet the bank's manager Mr Jacks, played by David Paymer, who as with Stu you want to punch as his character just grates on you. So the story starts to take shape and Mr Jacks lets both know that to go up the ladder you have to be able to make the tough decisions - something Stu has no problem with but Christine does so day to day life continues until in walks Mrs Ganush looking to get some type of finance after she has already had two extensions on her payments. This is when the fun (not sure I be calling it that) starts.
Christine is told by Mr Jacks that it is up to her to make the decision even though it is tough so she rejects the claim sending Mrs Ganush mad and trying to grab and assault her. In comes security and cut to the Christine walking through the empty eerie car park scene where Christine spots Mrs Ganush's car. She runs to her car and locks herself in where she thinks she is safe. But Mrs Ganush appears and she is out for revenge. A very good fight scene insures and some very turn your head moments happen. As the fight calms down Mrs Ganush takes a button from Christine and seems to put a curse on it ...... and makes you think is the Lamia about to rear its angry head again.
What ensures is meeting Christine's boyfriend Clay, played by Justin Long, and is very sceptical when Christine wants to go and see a fortune teller after her experience with Mrs Ganush. We then meet Rham Jas, played by Dillep Rao, who claims to be able to see into the future. As it gets towards the end of the reading he sees a very horrible figure and has to stop the reading - and away we go - Christine starts to have horrific things happen to her and there are many scenes where Mrs Ganush is involved in often violent and disturbing scenes. Rham starts to come into the film a lot more and tells Christine that he is sure that she has got the curse of the Lamia on her and suggests a few ways off trying to break the curse all of which do not work and are not for the squeamish. Christine gets the news that if the curse is not broken in three days she will meet a horrible end.
Will Christine get that promotion? Will Rham find a way to break the curse? Will Christine last the three days? Will all the characters live happily ever after?
To find out the answers to these questions I urge you to get down to your local cinema and see this film. If you are fan of the gross and scary this a must see film for you. But for those of you who have just seen the trailers and have thought this looks like your average Joe scary film with a few gross parts and a bit of ketchup and are the type who will have nightmares, then this is not for you as it is even more gross than words can describe with parts of the film in my eyes taking it to the next level. It has some very jumpy parts and as mentioned some very disgusting parts that make you look away.
The film is well structured and the introduction of new characters along the way came along at all the right times to keep you interested and intrigued in the film. It is very well scripted and well acted. There are just about the right amount of scary parts which will keep you on your toes throughout and with some very good acting from the leads and some well played parts from the supporting cast. I definitely will be looking out for films with Dillep Rao in as he played his part brilliantly and I was very impressed with him.
Overall it is a possible for the DVD collection and did make me think as I left the cinema who would now want to go and work in a bank and reject a loan - NOT ME! This film in my opinion exceeded its expectations.

Your description of the movie is good, however, I'd disagree that this is a scary movie at all, if anything it's a comedy and I really can't understand the hype, I'm truely confused! Good review though.
Advantages: Apparently if you like Sam Raimi's Evil Dead films then this film will be for you Disadvantages: Bad acting, Bad story, It's supposed to be a horror, but it made us laugh. Waste of mone
