On a rather boring day, i was sitting in the house and i decided to take myself to the cinema. I had already been there about four times in about two weeks. At the time i was making a regular habit of going as it was my way of getting out for a few hours. I checked the cinema listings for yorkgate, the cinema that i always go to and i remembered hearing that drag me to hell was supposed to be good. I have never been a fan of horror films because they scare the life out of me. I know that is the general idea but i don't like it. I had seen 17 again which stars Zac Effron from the High School Musical films prior to watching this. Although that was great i wanted to see something totally out of the ordinary, something different, basically something the complete opposite of what i usually watch and this seemed like the perfect choice.
So nervously i went and bought my ticket and as you will probably have guessed by now i am a total chicken. I had even more a build up of nerves due to the fact that i arrived too early. I ended up going and buying a ben and jerry's ice cream while waiting for the moves start time. When it started i took my seat and prepared myself for how scary i thought it would be and the creepy beginning music seemed to confirm my fears. When i hear creepy music like most people, i instantly become frightened.
I think sometimes the music frightens me more than a film because i know when it starts what it suggests. As i watched this i become strangely glad that i had while still being terrified and even entertained because this film manages to do it all. It provokes so many different reactions and usually a horror film makes you assume its just going to be scary and that is that. I even assumed that with this but i was wrong. This has so many different elements in it. It brings unexpected laughter, mystery, shock, intrigue and of course fear. This left me astonished and a little bit scared standing outside the cinema that night afterwards waiting for my dad to pick me up.
This film kept me interested from start to finish, it has the perfect balance. It makes you on edge yet it still manages to make you laugh to, maybe even unintentionally. I wonder if some parts that were funny were intended to be as such or if people just laughed because they found it funny. Although this is funny thankfully it doesn't even tread its frightening toes in the annoying trend of horror spoofs of recent. The humour, weather it is intended to be there or not in no way ruins the film in fact it adds to it. This is confusing in a funny way because some parts are horrifying and funny all at once. I do not know how they managed it but they did and it reminds me off being on a roller-coaster. For instance, when you are on a roller-coaster you sometimes giggle with excitement and yet you are afraid to and i have found myself laughing and screaming at once.
This film is like that "no sooner" have you jumped out of your skin, so much so that your soul has astrally projected, ran and left your body behind, than you are laughing then screaming once again. It can provoke so many reactions in such short spaces of time and because of this no matter how much you prepare yourself for "what you think" will happen next. You never really do expect it nor are you ready, sometimes i wondered "should i be laughing" or am i laughing with nerves. The story line was well thought of and like with everything in life.
There are people who will like it and people who wont but i think this would raise interest in even the toughest of critics. This for me lived up to the hype and was even better than i thought it would be. This more than met my expectations. The characters chosen for this film were excellent and the actors and actresses who portrayed them done an amazing job. For the time i was watching this i really got caught up in it and forgot everything else. I am impressed by a film that can grab every ounce of my attention the way this did because i am always thinking about so many things not much can distract me from my thoughts. Sam and Ivan Raimi chose to write this film based on a moral, that moral was one of which a relatively good person makes a bad choice out of greed and for selfish purposes and then they have to pay for it.
The fact they have took someone playing the role of a everyday person just like me and you and put them in the situation that they are in is frightening to see. One decision was all it took to turn her world upside down for good. I wont mention what the decision was nor will i say what way she reacted. Although it is hard not to give it away in a review but the main video trailer give away all the best parts already. If you have not seen this DO NOT WATCH THE TRAILER. I was shocked seeing it afterwards and was glad that i never seen it prior to watching it.
ALISON LOHMAN
Alison Lohman plays the role of Christine Brown a loan officer who is a hard worker and is hoping for a promotion. She is trying to show her boss that she has the ability and skills to be promoted and when she is faced with the decision of weather or not to help a mysterious, creepy woman. Her decision is one that will effect her life in ways she could never have imagined. Her boss has prompted her to prove she is tough and willing to do anything that is required to be at the top. She wants the promotion bad and is willing to do just about anything to get it. She plays this role fabulously, she is very convincing as Christine and even at parts where i would of found it hard not to say "oh well that's far fetched" watching her playing the role i believed it.
JUSTIN LONG
Justin plays the role of Clay Dalton, Christine's boyfriend he is sceptical about things such as psychics, mediums and anything paranormal. He is there for her through everything although unlike her he is more worried than he is scared when she confides in him because he is sceptic and thinks she is ill. He is a college professor. He and Christine are both very close and he is very supportive of her. He is quite sarcastic in his disbeliefs and this shows in the film. Overall i think he also played a very convincing part and he was great in the film.
Lorna Raver
Lorna plays the role of Mrs Sylvia Ganush a elderly lady who needs a third extension on her mortgage. She comes to Christine and requests her help. Mrs Ganush is a very sinister character. She is very creepy yet extremely well thought up and one of the best additions to this amazing film. She is so brilliant and plays this role superbly, she will have you laughing, screaming in horror and shocked. Which is not bad for just one character in the film huh? If she doesn't get some sort of award for her performance she should. The same goes for the rest of the cast.
OVERALL
I loved this film, the special effects where brilliant and the whole film was very impressive. The idea for it couldn't have been better. I would gladly buy this dvd and i don't buy them often now because like previously mentioned they are too available. It really takes me to have thought "wow" before i would go out and buy my own copy of a film and this made me think wow for certain. Each and every character gets into their role so well. There was not one bad performance from any of the actors or actresses in this film. This film left me wanting to see more not in a bad, this wasn't good way but rather in a wow "that was so amazing" i don't want it to end way. I never ever liked horror films. I have not watched one which i can honestly say that i liked until this but this is an exception because it is exceptional.
I was expecting to be frightened yes but to be entertained and to laugh no. This had everything "all wrapped into one" sublime film. It is the best film that i have ever seen in the cinema and i am sure that it would have been just as great had i seen it at home. This is memorable and it is probably the only horror film that i will want to own because i don't see another one getting anywhere near close to this in terms of entertainment and excellence. Decisions are something that we all make, despite their level of importance or what they are. We can all make the wrong ones at times and never think twice of what consequences that they will have for us nor the effect they can have on others. This was a brilliant idea for a film to make one which was based around that. You should also keep your eyes peeled for Rham Jas played by Dileep Rayo. Dileep puts in a outstanding performance as the psychic that Christine visits.
Reggie Lee is also brilliant as Stu Rubin who also works where Christine does. He is a sneaky man and will more or less do anything possible to try and make Christine look bad because he is competing with her and doing everything in his power to get the promotion instead of her. David Paymer put in a excellent performance as the boss of the bank. He is deciding who out of Christine and Stu deserves the promotion to assistant manager. I find the character of Christine to have been one who a lot of people could relate to, in the sense that she really wants her promotion. She has worked hard to get there and she has a annoying weasel on her back trying to make her look bad and causing her unnecessary stress.
I have always been interested in psychics and paranormal things although i don't usually like horror films this was brilliant. I think its brilliant in the sense that it fooled me because i thought i was sure at one point as to what was about to occur and i actually really wasn't right at all. It totally surprised me and i thinks it is great when a film can be unpredictable like that. I know some people like my mum and dad and when a film is on they seem to consciously switch on and off or go in and out of the room while watching it.This means they miss most of it and they say something such as "i will catch up on it later" which they never do.
Yet i know if they were to watch this they would not be doing it. In less interesting films that i have watched at the cinema, i have seen people go in and out to get food or use the bathrooms, i have even done it myself. Very recently i did it and walked right out of a film which was in my opinion unbelievably crap. With Drag me to hell i didn't flinch and neither did anyone else everyone in the cinema remained there until the film was over and on the way out everyone was talking to the people they were with and saying how great it was. This was an unlikely choice of film for me to watch especially when it came to paying for a cinema ticket but i am very glad that i did. This was a memorable film and i would give it one hundred stars if i could. The scenes with Mrs Ganush have made a permanent imprint on my brain that being the scary ones and the funny ones to. If you believe in hell this will scare you even more.
This made me jump so many times that i lost count and when someone next to me moved to get comfortable in their chair, i nearly jumped out of my skin because i was so scared by this. I was doing so much laughing and screaming at this that when i was meant to laugh i screamed and when i was meant to scream i ended up laughing. Overall i think most people will enjoy this film because there is so many different aspects to it. I think there could be a part to suit everyone, i think this is the best horror film to come out for years and i think the comedy parts in it make it truly unique and set it apart from other films making it in a league of its own. This is rated PG -13 and lasts 99 enjoyable minutes.

Advantages: It's Sam Raimi doing horror. Of course it will be brilliant! Disadvantages: Where in the blue hell is Bruce Campbell's cameo?
DRAG ME TO HELL You have to feel sorry for the simple goofs that brought into the super hype surrounding the advertising remit of Drag Me To Hell. With 'scariest film of the decade' and 'from the director of Spiderman' drilled into their tiny little brains, it's no wonder they were somewhat disappointed with the actual content of the film. However, for the more savvy audiences out their, those who could read between the lines and link the two advertising ... ...the frights begin. If anything, Drag Me To Hell is certainly a film that will have your nerves jangling in the lead up to these core moments, although its never outright terrifying. Of course, when these moments do happen it's with a stream of refreshing imagery and kinetic visuals that explode on screen. Unsurprisingly, with Raimi being an old hand at this, it works incredibly well delivering chuckles, gasps and shocks in equal measure. Christine's ...

==Reasons Why I Watched This Film? ==
IMDb.com has an overall rating of 8.2/10 for this film. Empire Magazine gave this film 4 star out of 5. Every review I read said this was the best horror to be on the big screen since Saw. Justin Long is hot. ==My Experience==
With reasons like that, I was really looking forward to watching this film, ‘The Best Horror since Saw’, I am not too good with horrors but considering the other choice ... ...a demon will come and drag her to hell. She turns to a seer to find a way to survive this evil curse. ==Is it the Best Horror since Saw? ==
Damn NO. Christine played by Alison Lohman is terrible in the film; her acting ability makes the film even worse. After she gets cursed, she gets all types of bad things happening to her, one of the main things that happens is the old woman (with no teeth) starts knowing on her chin, literally slobber everywhere, ...

My girlfriend is a fiend for the horror films of Sam Raimi. I reckon they’re pretty good too. The Evil Dead trilogy is a knockabout series of films that look cheap and overly gory, but still have a fair share of hiding round the sofa moments. It is the servings of comedy that make his movies stand out. During moments of buttock clenching terror Raimi is a ... ...My Verdict:
I enjoyed Drag Me to Hell very much. Correction: I got scared senseless by this movie. After 100 minutes of shocks, you cannot help but feeling wrung out after watching this movie. I’m not entirely sure how effective the transfer to the small screen would be, but Raimi’s latest offering lends itself wonderfully to the cinema. His constant recourse to short bursts of demonic hell on the ears are predictable, but when the audio setup rattles ...

Advantages: Well scripted, good acting, Alison Lohman! Disadvantages: The sheer volume of grossness in some parts
Lets just start by saying that I am not into jumpy and scary films at all but looking at the trailers I thought it looked pretty harmless and a few jumpy parts were no problem - it makes the wife happy - I have seen one of these films with her, keeps her quiet and I am in the good books for at least one night .......... How wrong was I about this film. It starts off with a young boy being taken to an idyllic house and his parents claiming he has ... ...women inside claims she can help. Well let's just say it doesn't work out as planned and we get the first viewing of the Lamia who will play a very big part in this film. This is followed by the first look at our main character Christine Brown, played by Alison Lohman, a bank worker very eager to make her way up the ladder and is at present trying for the assistant manager position. She is up against newcomer in the company Stu Rubin, played by Reggie ...

Advantages: Erm... you might and probably will like it? Disadvantages: I didn't!
I only gave this movie a rating of 'satisfactory' because I felt it was quite funny in places, whether or not intentionally and it certainly stirred me to be annoyed enough that I should watch it all the way through and then go on the internet to vent about it. Job done in that respect. Ok, firstly, what type of movie is this? I seriously don't get it. That's all I can say. The main character (Alison Lohman) appears to be on the verge of one hilarious ... ...outwardly pleasant exterior. Now, for someone supposedly tormented by a demon, continually walking around with a half smile on her face and looking as if she's about to crack up simply makes me wonder if this is not some comedy, part of an Evil Dead inside joke I just don't get. Either that, or the acting is bad. However, I feel it is something else, as if the acting is purposely bad. Either way, I can't pretend I know what they were trying to achieve. ...

When I saw this film advertised I was so excited and could not wait for its release.
It stated that this was the best horror film for years. I love a good horror film so was looking forward to seeing it.
When i watched it i was quiet dissapointed, dont get me wrong it did make me jump in a few places but I thought in parts it was more comedy than scarey. I suppose this is because it was from the same makers of 'The Living Dead' films.
It is a good film if you get scared easily but if you a horror lover like mysef and like a good scare then this is not really for you.
Its worth watching but I would not go run out any buy it 'now' there is better movies out there that i have seen recently that are a much better horror and much better story line than this one. ...
