are many explosive, fast-paced sequences in this Jean-Claude Van Damme vehicle. Some are thrilling, others inconsequential. There is also another mumbling, overdone performance by Mickey Rourke, who looks as if he performed his own plastic surgery. Except for an unintentionally humorous ending, the only surprise is Dennis Rodman as Van Damme's partner in exploitation. Rodman has plenty of charisma, but needs someone to weed out those inferior scripts. He plays an eccentric arms dealer coerced by an avenging Van Damme into tracking down the evil and sadistically weird character played by a well-muscled Rourke. It says little for the production that the best sequence of the movie occurs a quarter of the way into the action. It concerns an escape by Van Damme from an island think tank for forcibly retired covert agents. After that, everyone should have gone home. --Rochelle O'Gorman, Amazon.com

Advantages: A Van Damme movie that doesn’t insult your intelligence for some of the time.... Disadvantages: A bit too out there for the average Van Damme fan, perhaps?
Van Damme looks ridiculous standing next to the frankly enormous Dennis Rodman (which might expalin why you don't see the both of them standing next to each other much....).
Rodman is surprisingly NOT bad BUT he’s given nothing to do BUT give a few bad insults (they don’t stick), say several more stupid things and act very tongue-in-cheek and strike down the odd nemesis, as he comes across as unexpectedly camp.
Rodman’s character ... ...(there’s snatches of him elsewhere though....) and even then it’s only as he’s about to drive off on his motorcycle and Van Damme stops him just about as he is to roar off.
The film has some nice touches BUT believing that Rodman is a weapons dealer-cum-inventor can indeed be a trifle bit too much for a demanding viewer such as myself (a neat touch with an inflatable parachute shaped as a basketball which it’s occupant uses ...

Advantages: A few stars in the cast Disadvantages: Overobvious product placement and anyone looking for a serious film will be disappointed
Double Team is a cheesy movie, in all honesty, but is there to be taken in a not overly serious light. For a start, it starts the Muscles from Brussels himself, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and along with him Dennis Rodman in a somewhat quirky film debut. The big man has some unfortunately wooden basketball-related lines which he is forced to deliver (and does so very woodenly) but humourously enough to be overlooked. The actual plot is exciting and all ... ...a place where all criminals or anti-terrorists of the highest calibre thought to be dead are kept alive and used in the fight against counter-terrorism. Rourke plays a good terrorist, and there is enough to keep action fans happy – but watch out for the ridiculous product placement throughout the film. ...

Advantages: None Disadvantages: All
Double Team
How about a film that features a big built Belgian no nothing and a 7 foot tall american no nothing, with bad humour and bad acting from start to finish? Like the sound of that? Well rush dont to the shops and rent this little beauty, you're in for a treat. The fight scenes in this are laughable, and so is the acting. It is only saved by the fact that Jean Claude is a very famous man. And the finger printing device he makes, that is ...

Pants Down Review ofDouble Team (Wide Screen)by
squid
Advantages: Disadvantages:
This has to be one of the worst films I have ever seen. I used to really like Jean-Claude VanDamme, he was one of my favourite actors, bringing out great films like Bloodsport and Universal Soldier, but just recently he has gone completely down the pan, e.g. Universal Soldier 2. Then team him up with the man that should have stayed on court rather than TRIED acting, Dennis Rodman, and you've got a hit combination, and are well on your way to being ...

Double Crap. Review ofDouble Team (Wide Screen)by
Rubie
Advantages: One cool island Disadvantages: Crap cast, plot, directing, and action.
I have slept through better films! This is clearly meant to be an action film, but even if you watch it as just that, it falls way short of the mark. The acting is hammy, at best, the feeble attempt at humour is, well, feeble, and the film's only redeeming feature is the island on which the old operatives are retired. To cut a long story short, Jean Claude van Damme teams up with Rodman to fight some big bad guy who had van Damme's wife (so original). ... ...and a big truck. NOBODY CARES!! The film's biggest problem was its inability to give us anything that we hadn't seen before, except for a big inflatable basketball. All the action was tired, and the delivery was so boring. It seems like it was directed to be hazy. I wonder if the director was on something at the time, because the film was so incoherrent.
Do not see this film. ...
