successful husband (Bruce Greenwood), an adorable son, and an island home to die for. One morning, after a romantic sailing expedition with her husband, Libby finds herself covered in blood. Her husband's missing, the boat resembles a murder scene, and there's a knife on the deck. One might stop right there and call for help; Libby, however, takes matters--or, more specifically, the knife--into her own hands, and the moment she does, there's the Coast Guard. Faster than you can say frame-up, Libby's been charged with murder and jailed, with her young son stripped from her custody. It's all cut-and-dried, except for one thing: Libby's husband isn't dead, and she's about to track him down. And thanks to the US Constitution's "double jeopardy" rule, she can't be charged twice for his murder.Double Jeopardyhas a singularly seductive revenge premise and, in Judd, one of the most seductive leading ladies to grace the silver screen in recent years. So then why does this thriller feel like it came from the bottom of the television movie barrel? Instead of taking a gritty, hard-boiled approach, the film plays up all of Libby's mushy emotions--tellingly, the director here is Bruce Beresford, whose best film,Driving Miss Daisy, is as far from thriller territory as you can get. No matter how stoically or deviously Judd plays her, Libby comes across as a soccer mom with a slight taste for blood. Only in a few scenes, specifically when she tracks her wily husband to his new identity in New Orleans, does Judd get to strut her stuff, stealing an evening gown and crashing his charity auction. Most of the time, though, this thriller offers only a smattering of suspense. Well, at least like Libby, the filmmakers can't be condemned twice for the same crime. With Tommy Lee Jones duplicating hisFugitiverole, as Libby's conscientious parole officer. --Mark Englehart, Amazon.com

Warning, this opinion will spoil some of the story if you have not seen it!
Having had this film (amongst others, I actually have about 70 films to which because of my CIAO addiction, I have not got around to watching) on tape for quite a few months, I decided to start watching them to clear some of my tapes up.

Well Double Jeopardy is a Crime Thriller in the Fugitive mould, about a woman Libby Parsons (Ashley Judd), to whom is married to a business man Nicholas Parson’s (No not the one that used to host sale of the century) who is in deep financial troubles, so he decides to fake his own murder, and put his wife in the frame, thus enabling him to run off with their son Matty and her friend (or sister or whatever she was), and at the same time clearing his debts.
Knowing that his wife loves sailing, he sets about setting up his own murder whilst out at sea, so he goes about the job, by splattering blood all over his wife, the bed, the deck of the boat, etc and leaving the suspected murder weapon conveniently covered in blood, lying on the deck of the boat. So in the middle of the night, the wife wakes up, only to find she is covered in blood and noticing her husband had disappeared, she then notices the blood covered knife and picks the knife up, and just by chance, this happens the second that the Coastguard and Police arrive on a boat, shining a spotlight on her covered in blood and holding the knife.
Anyway, enough of that part of the story, Libby is found guilty and sentenced to six years prison, whilst in prison, she begins to get hints that her husband is in fact still alive, and actually living with her friend, the same friend she had trusted the son’s welfare with. So one day, she gets into a discussion with a ex-lawyer, who happens to be in prison, to whom informs her of the “Double Jeopardy” law and giving her the idea to exact revenge.
Six years later, she is released on parole, under the guidance of her parole officer, the “take no crap” Travis Lehman (Tommy Lee Jones), to which despite nearly killing him and having several spats with him, turns out to be her saving light. Anyway, she attempts to track down her husband and son, which turns out to be trickier than she thought, as he has moved around the country and changed his name several times, to cover the trail.
I will leave the story there, as I don’t want to totally give the whole plot away, but I will give you my thoughts on the film, I found this a half decent film, that’s worth watching if you have nothing else to watch, but I reckon that you’ll find Girls\Women will enjoy this movie more, as it’s a Girly type story, and although there are one or two decent action scenes, I wouldn’t say they where superb. I also found parts of the plot where pretty weak, like the suspected blood on the boat, was it tested to find out whether it was her husbands blood and why did the coastguard happen to turn up, the second she picked the knife up (considering the fact that the boat was far out at sea).
Ashley Judd plays the role very good, as the determined wife, trying to track down her hubby and son, and Tommy Lee Jones was his usual great self, but apart from them, the rest of the actors where mainly unknown and pretty weak.

Ah, the things you’ll watch when your wife is working, the kids are sound asleep, and your ISP resolutely refuses to log you onto Ciao! When presented with that scenario the other evening, I was reduced to flicking through the Cable channels looking for something enticing. Instead, I found this!
I was reluctant to watch it based on some negative comments on this very site, but I’ll admit I was initially intrigued by the premise and as ... ...it a go.
It looks like I’m giving away a lot of the plot but believe me it’s still less than any trailer or review of the film gives away!
Ashley Judd plays Libby Parsons, a seemingly happily married middle-class housewife who is pleasantly surprised when her husband, Nick (Bruce Greenwood, who was excellent in the under-rated TV show, Nowhere Man) buys her the beautiful sailboat she’s had her eye on for some time. Could he really ...

I rented this film from the video shop lastnite, having seen a trailor for it when watching Rules Of Engagement on Sunday nite (no,i'm not usually a video-aholic!). I was after some good entertainment for the evening, and i was satisfied that this film provided me with that (unlike X men when i fell to sleep too many times to count last weekend!).

The scene is set with an idealic husband Nic, wife Elizabeth (Ashley Judd) and young son Matty, living in a very 'nice' house, and they appear to be quite well off. The husband lures his wife away on a sailing weekend, and she awakes in the night to find her husband gone, and herself covered in blood, holding a knife as the Coastguard arrive.
Elizabeth is duely tried and convicted of her husbands murder, and is sent to prison. She entrusts ...

...the full truth of the double cross that's been done to her Libby slowly stews in a rage, with her helpful inmates again giving her useful pointers on what should be her next course of action. Don’t try and fool your wife into thinking that you are dead. By all means try and fool her into thinking that you are asleep but leave it at that.
However, Ashley Judd’s screen husband decides to ignore the advice I have given above. Not only does he pretend to be dead, he fakes his death in such a way as to frame his wife for it!
HOW SO?
Well….he goes for a boat trip with the wife. They make passionate lurrrve and while she ... ...put in her wine) he sets about his dastardly deeds. Having phoned the Coastguard he cuts himself and smears the blood liberally over his wife and the boat. The knife with which he does this is then left upon the deck. When she finally wakes up he is gone she follows the trail of blood and the Coastguard materialise. You don’t actually get the ancillary details until later on in the film.
SO HOW DOES SHE GET INTO TROUBLE?
When the Coastguard ...

DVD Description
Director Bruce Beresford's thriller stars Ashley Judd as Libby Parsons, a young woman with a seemingly happy marriage and a prosperous life. While on a weekend sailing trip, she wakes up in the middle of the night to find the boat covered in blood and her husband, Nick (Bruce Greenwood), missing. Since she's found holding a knife covered in her husband's blood, Libby's quickly indicted and convicted of murder. Her lawyer suggests that she give up her son, and he's soon adopted by her friend, Angie (Annabeth Gish), who promptly disappears with the child. Although Libby's angry enough to break out of prison, her lawyer-cellmate advises her to wait for parole and take advantage of double jeopardy protection, a legal loophole that prevents her from being tried for the same crime twice. Six years later, Libby's paroled into a halfway house under the care of hard-bitten probation officer Travis Lehman (Tommy Lee Jones). She escapes immediately, taking off to find her son and exact revenge on those who framed her. Lehman, expecting as much, is fast on her trail.
