My four year old son has spent many a happy hour sat in front of Nick Jr watching Dora the Explorer both at home and at his friend's homes. I visited Tesco with him a few months ago looking for a DVD or Video that he could watch and that my one year old may enjoy as well. My four year spotted Dora the Explorer and insisted that this was what he wanted.

I was a bit apprehensive at first as my friends had said it would be an excellent present for a little girl and I was afraid that my son would watch it once and then never again. I'm glad to say that this is definitely not the case. In fact he enjoys watching it so much that we now have a variety of Dora the Explorer DVDs and books. The Dora the Explorer range of products are very educational and alot of fun, and I believe that they would be ideal for both sexes. The teach both English and Spanish and have some excellent catchy songs.

The main character as you can probably guess is Dora, she is the bilingual heroine. She has a very cheerful nature and a very inquisitive mind and as such seems to captured the hearts of both children and parents. Her main friend in the DVDs and books is a monkey called Bootsand they have their cohorts map and backpack which accompany them on their many adventures. Their rival is a wiley fox who goes by the name of Swiper.

These adventures seem to encourage interaction and physical activity, whilst teaching basic counting and logic skills as well as Spanish. In this particular DVD everyone appears to have lost something even Swiper. Dora is missing her teddy bear and Tico is missing his keys. So Dora and Boots invite you to travel with them through the Lost City in order to locate and retrieve the lost or misplaced items.

This DVD also includes two bonus episodes, which also require Dora and Boots to solve problems and encourages interaction between the charaters on screen and the viewers.

This DVD is classified U, so it suitable for an age child and I believe children of both sexes will enjoy this DVD equally. The DVD is aproximately 94 minutes long, but can be stop at the end of any episode. This is an excellent DVD suitable for all and helps tointroduce a new language at an early age. I would highly recommend this to any potential buyer.
