Advantages: Good twist, good performances from the leads, lots of gore and the wonderful FPS sequence. Disadvantages: Seen it all before - very little difference to Aliens, except Doom is not as good.
...you're all thinking - "so, Doom is actually a cliché-ridden Aliens rip-off?" Well, yeah, what else were you expecting? After all, the original game has more than it's fair share of knowing nods to James Cameron's action masterpiece. Doom also happens to rip-off numerous aspects of Predator, Blade 2, Split Second and Resident Evil throughout its running time. Indeed it borrows so much from the already over-flowing barrels of sci-fi staples that it's ... ...the god-awful Aliens Vs Predator, Doom is actually all right (making it vastly superior to AVP). Now, please don't confuse "all right" with "excellent," as these are two differing countries separated by a very large expanse of water. Its capital is just above the town of Mediocre, which helps to highlight the general averageness of Doom. But still, it has some decent things going for it. The opening sequence, including a severed arm lopped off by ...

Advantages: The section like the actual game Disadvantages: The story and the terrible lighting.
...few months later.
Doom should have made a pretty decent action movie, it certainly had a movie style plot to the game, more so than most other games that have ended up as games… Mortal Combat & Street Fighter but not enough to become bogged down by trying to stick to the complex plots like Silent Hill.
Doom the game was a first person shooter, meaning you played the character from your own viewpoint, exploring a base on Mars investigating what ... ...everything you come across.
Doom the film follows that idea as much as it can, though it reverses the numbers on the two sides. Instead of a lone soldier taking on the creatures in the base a group of marines are sent in, instead of their being hordes of creatures to fight there is a limited number. From a film point of view this is a sensible decision, as we, the viewers, want the tension and drama of what is going to happen next. With just one ...

Advantages: Sound/Audio, Special Effects Disadvantages: cop out from the game, not enough monsters, story, unoriginal
...Back in the early 90's Doom was at the forefront of the gaming world. With much better graphics and game play (including network play) than most other games. Players could immerse themselves in the world of a Marine fighting demon's from Hell, on Mars. Then in late 2004 we had some more of the same with Doom3, only with bigger better graphics and a more refined storyline (even if the game was a bit linear).
Amongst gamers, the idea that there would ... ...story of the game (particularly Doom 3) was fairly simple. You are on a tour of duty at the UAC facilities on Mars, when they access a portal to hell and let all sorts of demons out, and you basically run around killing any demon that moves before descending into Hell to have a go at the boss himself. This was the kind of story I would have liked seen to port over to the film. Dark dingy corridors, masses of monsters and demons coming at you before ...

Advantages: Fun, Action Packed, Scary Disadvantages: Could alienate fans of the game, poor DVD extra's
...lead role. I was overjoyed, Doom was, and still is a classic game, yes, it may look dated now but the impact it had on a generation more than makes up for it. I waited for years for Doom the movie to come out. As Dolph Lungred faded into the background leaving me with only He-man to remember his loin clothed sweaty body with. And Big Arnie moving onto better things and getting the taste for Politics. I thought the film would never be made, and for ... ...feature on the history or Doom as well as incredibly “subtle” plugs for Doom3. That’s fine but I wanted interviews, deleted scenes, a tenner and a copy of Razzle. Ah well a man can dream. Doom isn’t a masterpiece but it doesn’t claim to be, if your expecting Doom the game then your going to be disappointed (apart from the fun little first person section) If however you go into this film just wanting an action fix then you’ll enjoy it. If not your ...

Advantages: reminds me of the game Disadvantages: plot is a bit thin
...in First Person Perspective (ala Doom , the PC game).
The Special effects are definetly one of the selling points of this movie. Really cool looking aliens , big guns and explosions.
The soundtrack is mediocre , kind of what you'd expect from this kind of movie. Composed scores building tension in scary scenes , blasting out in action scenes. Personally I would have liked to see some Heavy Metal bands thrown into the mix to give the soundtrack ... ...the movies budget on the Special Effects , and the other half on the Rock!
All in all , I really enjoyed this movie. It gave me what I expected and a bit more. I don't think it will ever be regarded as a classic , but it's pretty dang cool!
Should you watch it?
Well , yeah. I would recommend it. But I'm 21 , into guns , explosions , zombies , Mars , beautiful scientist ladies and of course , I spent countless hours killing the alien scum in the ...

Advantages: I got it for £1.. cheaper than renting a film Disadvantages: Bad acting, bad story, bad special effects
...When I was in Tesco recently, I had a look around their 'bargain' dvd section. Since a lot of the DVDs were only £1, I couldn't resist buying a few! This film 'Doomed' was one of the ones I bought.
I had never heard of this film before I saw in Tesco and as far as I know it was a straight to dvd release.
On the front of the cover of the DVD, there is the statement "In the tradition of '28 Days Later' and 'Dawn Of The Dead'" I guess that the statement is trying to lure you in to thinking that the film is going to be wonderful and an 'almost blockbuster' release..
I quite liked both of those films, and I have to say the only comparison that I make between this film and them is that there are zombies in it. I don't think that this film should even be compared to two very good films.
On the front cover there is also a picture...

Advantages: Good special effects and serenity has a great plot. Disadvantages: Doom is a bit of a let-down.
...Serenity - A hardened space cowboy, psychic butt-kicking girl, flesh eating carnivorous humans living on the outskirts of space and a galactic conspiracy. Altogether a fantastic story, great special effects and an interesting take on the development of language in the future. Like Shakespeare in space! Sorry Will.
Doom - Trouble in a secret research facility on a foreign planet. Only one way in and out and the genetically enhanced killers aren't aloud out! The Rock with some big guns and explosions. Based on the hugely popular computer game Doom.
Hardcore Doom fans may find the lack of first person views disappointing, but overall a good special effects and a mediocre script and plot.
2 for the price of 1, but at this price I'm not sure if I would have purchased them. Happilly added to my DVD collection at lower price, but...

...look at revolutionary methods to restore his beloved daughter's eyes.
When eye transplants fail from the bodies of the dead, Chaney decides that a live victim is needed to ensure the restored vision of Nancy, setting his sights on his daughter's boyfriend Dr. Dan Bryon (Lance Henrikson) he steals Bryon's eyes and enslaves him in a cell beneath the families' mansion. But when this transplant fails it's down to Chaney and his wife Katherine (Gloria Graham) to find more unwilling donors.
Initially known in the UK as Massacre Mansion, Mansion Of The Doomed is one of those commonly available movies that nobody seems to have seen. When VIPCO revived sales in the early 1990's one of the first releases was Massacre Mansion which had the delightful image of a hand clutching eyes on the front cover. This release by low budget movie company...

Actor(s): The Rock, Karl Urban, Rosamund Pike, Ben Daniels, Dhobi Oparei
Director(s): Andrzej Bartkowiak
Genre: Science Fiction & Fantasy
Classification: 15 years and over
Production Year: 2005
Running Time: 1 hour 56 minutes
Video Category: Feature Film
Plot: In the not-so-distant future, a portal has been discovered leading from Earth to Mars, where the government operates a research base to examine the ruins of a lost civilisation; scientists are studying it, conducting experiments they perhaps shouldn't be, and trying find out what happened. Answer: nothing good. That's what Sarge (The Rock) and his unit of high-tech Marines find out the hard way when they're sent to investigate a disturbance on the base which turns out to be nothing less than an infestation of terrifying, evil, flesh-eating monsters. DOOM, based on one of the most popular video games of all time, knows exactly what it wants to do, and wastes no time in doing it. Andrzej Bartkowiak, the director of lean, effective action flicks like ROMEO MUST DIE and EXIT WOUNDS, gets right to the meat of the movie: marines versus monsters in dark, dank corridors. The Rock brings just the right balance of bad-ass attitude and deadpan humour to the role of Sarge, while the cast's other standout is Reaper (LORD OF THE RINGS' Karl Urban), who tries to repair his strained relationship with his sister Samantha (Rosamund Pike), one of the base's scientists. They're joined by a motley crew, including the twisted Portman, intensely religious Goat, affable Duke, and newbie The Kid. While the plot differs from that of the game in a few key ways, it remains true to the spirit of the original a no-frills fest of shooting, explosions, gore, and vicious zombies. The game was, of course, a first-person shooter, and in an inspired moment, the movie turns itself into one for a stretch. It's exhilarating, as are several surprising twists that separate this fun, streamlined action extravaganza from lesser video game adaptations.
