...and the fact that they don't know much and because of this do things that we happen to find funny. It is obvious that the brothers want us to see what life is like in the hood, but they don't want to make it a serious movie, so they do what they do best, make it funny. The Wayans brothers are known for their humour, and they use that to make a movie which is funny and has messages in it.
Each character is introduced, and you are given ... ...his mum until she sent him to live with his dad.

Another movie about what life is like 'in the hood'. It is really unlike a movie, as it says things like, 'you know there ain\'t no positive females in these movies'. Never-the-less, the movie is really funny. The Wayans brother deliver yet again! You can not take it too seriously as the characters have names like 'Ash Tray' and 'Loc Dog', however there are some hidden messages in the movie, which make you realise that even though life in the hood is difficult, this is what it is like for them.
The movie is about a guy (Ash Tray) who lived with his mother all his life, but is sent to spend time with his father (who happens to be a little older than himself) so that he can learn to be 'a man'. Whilst in the hood, Ash Tray spends a lot of time with his cousin Loc Dog.
Although the movie doesn't show you in great depth why people in the hood are murdered, it does show some gang related violence. It also shows how they are discriminated against by others because of the colour of their skin. As they are from the hood, they are not the brightest of people as they couldn't afford a decent education, and therefore are unable to get themselves a decent job to support their family.
You are given facts like, not many people live to see their 18th birthday and how if you try to educate yourself you could get yourself a decent job and get yourself out the hood.
It is a comedy with messages. The Wayans brothers try to help you to realise what life is like in the hood, with humour. You could say that the humour is caused by the ignorance of the characters and the fact that they don't know much and because of this do things that we happen to find funny. It is obvious that the brothers want us to see what life is like in the hood, but they don't want to make it a serious movie, so they do what they do best, make it funny. The Wayans brothers are known for their humour, and they use that to make a movie which is funny and has messages in it.
Each character is introduced, and you are given the 'load down' on them: Ash Tray lived his mum until she sent him to live with his dad.
Loc Dog is Ash Tray's cousin. He is unemployed and lives with his family. He shows Ash Tray around the hood and tells him everything he needs to know.
Crazy Legs is in a wheel chair as he lost his legs in a drive by. He wants to be the next 'MC Hammer'.
Dashiki is the object of Ash Trays affection. She has 8 illigitimate children, all from different guys and of different race.
Preach is all about being a black African. He is into his beliefs and faith.
Toothpick has recently been released from prison, although he still acts like hes in there as hes been in and out of jail his whole life. He trades as though he was in prison and has his steak knife passed under the table to him like he would have had done while he was in prison.
There are some inappropriate scenes, for example when the gang go to a barbeque, and a couple are having full on sex on the dance floor.
There are also a number of funny scenes with Ash Tray and Loc Dog's grandma, for example, when in church she starts break dancing.
All in all the movie is worth watching just for the humour part of it. You can also learn a little about life in the hood through the messages that are given (these are indicated with a mail man shouting 'message!').

Review of Don't Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood (Special Edition) (DVD)
Advantages: really funny, politically incorrect, no brainer! Disadvantages: will definately offend some!
...1996 and the hood version. Don't Be a Menece stars the two Wayans Brothers Shawn & Marlon (White Chicks) & is produced by their older Brother Keenan Ivory Wayans (Scary Movie), who does have a cameo role as a mail man who's only line in the film is "message" this is uttered everytime Ash Tray or Loc dog say something "profound". If you haven't seen a lot of 90's hood movies this movie is not going to give you as many laughs, the two Wayans brothers ... ...film and like it, but don't quite get all the jokes, go out and watch "Menace II Socient", "South Central", "Juice", "Poetic Justice" & "Boyz N the Hood".
There are a couple of extras on this film, such as the deleted scenes, again if you have not seen any of the hood movies these extras will not be anywhere near as funny as if you know what they are referencing....the other extra on the film is called "Hood Movie Gumbo" and this sort of breaks ...
